I love Marsha Canham's high seas, swashbuckling romances and have rated them all 5 stars. This one is no exception. It's the third in her Pirate Wolf trilogy, set in 1623 in the tropical waters of the Spanish Main (think the Caribbean), at a time when pirates and privateers went after the enormous wealth being shipped back to Spain in the form of gold, silver, gems and spices via the Spanish treasure fleets. This is the story of Gabriel Dante, Simon and Isabeau Dante's youngest son, a handsome sea captain who has just captured a Spanish galleon.

On his way back to the Dante family headquarters in Pigeon Cay, Gabriel rescues beautiful young Eva Chandler from a ship of death. Gabriel's interest is roused by the English beauty, both her body and the silver coin she carries in a locket, a Spanish coin her father sent her that may have come from a famous treasure ship lost on the Spanish Main. Eva's father, William Chandler, a shipping magnate, sailed to the Caribbean 4 years ago and Eva hasn't seen him since. Desperate to know if he lives, Eva has come looking for him and wants Gabriel's help.

Gabriel is a handsome rogue like his father, the famous Pirate Wolf; and Eva is her own woman, just like Gabriel's mother. So much so, Eva even taunts Gabriel like Isabeau taunts Simon. In other words, Gabriel and Eva are a well-matched pair! Their adventures will have your head spinning. It's like taking a wild ride without leaving home: pirates, sunken treasure, battle on land, storms at sea, sword fights and shipboard love, oh yes! Who needs a vacation?...Just read this!

The Pirate Wolf trilogy:

ACROSS A MOONLIT SEA (Simon and Isabeau)
THE IRON ROSE (Juliet and Varian)
THE FOLLOWING SEA (Gabriel and Eva)

5.0 out of 5 stars A Pirate's Life For Me! April 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
After an eight year absence, Marsha Canham makes a triumphant return. "The Following Sea" is a swashbuckling, lusty romance that keeps you turning pages with all the clever twists and turns that Ms. Canham is known for. Lost treasure, a feisty heroine in distress, a handsome, notorious pirate - what could be better?

Ms. Canham's words come alive as you can almost smell the ocean and easily envision the majestic ships as they blast each other in their dangerous dance in battle. Just when you are wondering how Gabriel Dante (one of the infamous Hell Twins and son of Simon Dante, the Pirate Wolf) is going to survive his latest predicament, Ms. Canham oh so cleverly and with such panache, works her magic and Gabriel survives to fight another day. Our heroine, gently bred Evangeline Chandler, proves to be tenacious in her quest to locate her lost father, while still maintaining her sweetness despite the many betrayals and trials she faces.

It has been wonderful re-acquainting myself with Ms. Canham's books now that she has gotten her rights back and has published them in e-book form. I'm ecstatic that she is writing again, as I'm sure thousands of her die-hard fans are. And, I'm thrilled to find that her voice, which has been missed these last eight years, still sings strong. That voice and gift has been missed, but never forgotten. Thank goodness Marsha Canham is writing again and we can benefit from her wit, her amazing story telling and her fabulous talent!

Avast ye mateys! This was a bloody good book! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars She keeps me coming back for more.... April 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I reread the first two books in the series while sitting on the beach listening to the waves crash and then started on The Following Sea. If there were more time on my vacation I'd have reread The Wind and the Sea and Bound by the Heart. NOBODY does seafaring adventure like Ms. Canham. I thoroughly enjoyed this addition to the Pirate Wolf series. If you haven't read the first two, I highly recommend those be read first.

Gabriel Dante's story did not disappoint, and I am anxiously anticipating Jonas' story as well, even if it takes another 8 years, it will be worth waiting for. There is history, action, a dispicable villain, a dashing hero, a gorgeous heroine, a brave adventurous family, and of course, an intense romance... all wrapped up and delivered on a pirate ship on the high seas.
