Book Description

On a cold, December morning in 1815, the body of nineteen year-old Lady Elizabeth Flynn and her stepson, Captain Jeremy Flynn, are found floating in a lake on the Flynn estate. Sir Henry is devastated by the loss of his young wife and heir to the estate, especially since there is no evidence, no witnesses, and no apparent motive. But nothing is what it seems, and the gruesome find is only one link in a chain of events that started long before.

Forbidden love, family secrets, and betrayal have led to this moment, ending months of speculation and gossip and bringing it to a shocking conclusion.

5.0 out of 5 stars romantic murder mystery = marvelous May 2, 2012

The Folly" does not have the supernatual element like Irina Shapiro's other books. This one is more of a romance/murder mystery. The title has a dual meaning, which is consistent with most of the characters in the book. No one is exactly who they appear to be. There are lots of twists and turns and the conclusion is unexpected. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end and was rooting for Elizabeth and Jeremy despite their "folly".

5.0 out of 5 stars Great plot... lots of twists and turns May 1, 2012

I thought the storyline was great. I really was wondering what would happen next. This one had me on an emotional rollercoaster. Maybe it's me but I didn't see any big typos/grammar issues. I did have to look a few words up and understand the "historical" meaning but I felt that made the story more authentic. Looking forward to the next one.

Another winner from Irina Shapiro. I have thoroughly enjoyed each book from this talented author. Although The Folly takes a step away from Ms. Shapiro's usual style of merging dual plot lines, I found it no less captivating or engrossing. The characters were well developed and the story line had me on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed the mystery and plot twists along the way to an unforgetable ending. For anyone who enjoys a great story, this book will hit the spot!

3.0 out of 5 stars The Folly
It was a good book, although somewhat predictable. There are a few unanswered questions, so there should be a sequel in the works.

Weak story, weak characterization and predictable plot. Not a very good book. I would not recommend it unless you have nothing else to read.

More About the Author

There is nothing I enjoy more than a good book that takes me away from my everyday stresses and problems. I particularly like books that are set in the past, where the characters must navigate the volatile political climates of their time, while still managing to live, love, and cause mischief.

I've always had a particular fascination with the paranormal, and I explore some of these themes in my books. I believe that nothing is truly impossible. A true love can transcend space and time, and live on forever.
