Book Description

The world’s only hope is in a prophecy hardly anyone believes in anymore.

Long ago, Chashak and his demonic kin led the peoples of the Five Races astray, placing them on the path of war and destruction. Onúl, the One God, took pity on his creation and banished the evil ones from the sphere of the world for a season. Millennia have passed and Chashak has returned, though the world seems unaware and ill-prepared.

Tenna and Tander live peaceful lives far from one another, until destiny and tragedy draws them together. One of them is ready for adventure while the other feels like they’re little more than extraneous baggage. Neither of them are prepared for what’s to come. Befriended by dragons, guided by a legend, and protected by new friends, they embark on a journey to recover the only weapons capable of standing against the Deceiver—the seven Swords of Xigara.

THE FOUNDLINGS is the beginning chapter in the epic Swords of Xigara trilogy—a coming-of-age story full of peril, intrigue, and discovery. If you’re a fan of Tolkien, Terry Brooks, or David Eddings, you’ll enjoy following these adventurers as they strive against impossible odds to save their world—a world that may not want to be saved.

3.0 out of 5 stars Took a while to grab my interest April 20, 2013

I really wanted to love this book, but it took about 1/2 for me to get interested enough in the characters to finish reading it. There are a LOT of typos and grammatical errors in the book. A final read through edit would have helped a lot - I found them very distracting. I also felt like the story jumped around so much it made it hard to follow. Once it all started coming together though, my interest grew again and I was glad to finish it. I am not sure I will read the sequel, but glad I finished the first one.

5.0 out of 5 stars C.S. Lewis and J.R.R Tolkien Meet February 25, 2013
By joyevie
Format:Kindle Edition
Weaving together multiple story lines to create a tapestry of political intrigue, fantasy, and adventure, Miller's story is a work of art. Characters are complex, with both action and words that allow the reader to feel their motivations, while also hinting at future layers to be pulled back. Combining the fantasy races of Tolkien, including such favorites as elfs, trolls, and dragons with other mythological beings like the tann, he creates a whole new world to be transported to.

I especially appreciated the clear parallels to Christian stories without being overt. This kind of not-so-subtle allusion paired with metaphor is reminiscent of C.S. Lewis. Because of this, the story has a purpose, a theme that begs to be thought about and possibly transferred to learning real-world morality.

I'm looking forward to the sequel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great adventure fantasy February 26, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I really enjoyed the multiple story lines and character development. While there are many parallels to the works of Tolkien and others, the author manages to put his own unique spin on things.

I look forward to the next one!

I love stories about dragons. This story added the ability of shape shifting to the talents of dragons. The story was well written and brought all elements of the plot together. Can not wait to read the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Foundlings September 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The story develops nicely and you come to really care about the characters. Character development is nice but the evil characters need a little more development maybe in the second book. Overall a good read that sets you up for the next book. Looking forward to its release so the story can continue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't Wait for the Next !!!!!! July 6, 2013
By amb
My thirteen year old daughter and I read this one together and loved it! We could definitely see Tokien's style and also a little of Christopher Paolini's style. We are anxiously waiting the next volume of the series! My daughter is now inspired to right her own fantasy novel. I would definitely recommend this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Exciting
The storyline is good, and well developed. Grammar and punctuation could be better. Needs a good proofreader. Nevertheless, it's an exciting read with lots of twists and turns.
