In the fairytale kingdom of Empyrean, time has moved on. The princesses of once upon a time, like Snow White and Cinderella, have grown old and become great queens. Now, their kingdom is in danger. A Forgotten Evil has returned. In a small village by the sea, two sisters, Zandria and Olena, begin a dangerous journey for Zandria to claim her birthright as a queen. Along their journey, they meet some unique friends and terrifying enemies while trying to survive places like the Dead Forest and escape troll-infested castles. Will they make it to the Crystal Castle in time to save Empyrean or will the sisters lose each other forever? One thing is certain, before their journey ends, Zandria will learn what it means to be The Fourth Queen.

More About the Author

A Kansas Native, Mark currently resides in Florida with his wife and four children. Since moving to Florida, he has pursued a lifelong aspiration of becoming a published author. He believes he has always been a writer and strived to follow in the footsteps of his namesake, Mark Twain.

His education started early as his father was a newspaper writer, editor and photographer for both the Kansas City Star and Kansan. Formal development started in high school writing classes at Sumner Academy where he completed the International Baccalaureate program. Additional teaching came from both Kansas City Kansas Community College and the University of Kansas. It was at KU where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Film. Informally, he was educated by the writings of C.S. Lewis, Lloyd Alexander and as he matured, Tolkien. His interest in fantasy did not end on the page as some of his favorite movies include The Dark Crystal, Excalibur, and Star Wars.

Professional experience dates back to the 1990's. Mark has co-written four screenplays, two of which were produced as ultra-low budget direct-to-DVD features by East of Hollywood Productions. Through his relationship with East of Hollywood, Mark also became co-creator of an educational and entertaining children's program. That show used the talents of a local radio personality and a group of child actors to update classic fairytales and fables. Each of the episodes brought a twist to the familiar stories and conveyed a positive message.

On his own, Mark has completed five other novels, a screenplay, three digital short story series and several other short stories. The first three books of his Empyrical Tales have been published by Comfort Publishing, LLC out of North Carolina. Book I: The Fourth Queen, Book II: The Lost Queen and Book III: The Secret Queen are available in print and eBook. Trestle Press published his adaptation of the Christian movie Daniel's Lot, filmed in and around Mount Dora. With Trestle, Mark also heads a spiritual, introspective series called Mark Miller's One and a children's eBook series about to elementary school students that become international spies called Small World Global Protection Agency. This series teaches culture and geography in an exciting way. Mark has another all-ages, faith-based fantasy series that he is co-writing with his nine year old daughter. It is called Sons of the King and is available only on eBook. In addition to his own writing, Mark is currently lending his talents to a faith-based movie production company Lazarus Films.

He believes being a father of four makes him uniquely qualified to write The Empyrical Tales, an eight story series that comes from our collected myths and fairytales. He hopes his writing sends a positive message with strong role models and a beneficial moral element. And every day is an adventure with his children as they continue to teach him as well. His two young daughters unknowingly provided the models that helped create the main character sisters in The Fourth Queen. Many of their phrases and behaviors are shared with their fictional counterparts.

5.0 out of 5 stars All a fairytale should be February 25, 2013
By Jean
Format:Paperback
This enthralling story begins when four queens, from four ruling kingdoms are summoned to Castle Empyrean. This could only mean one thing; a great and malicious war was brewing. After three of the four queens arrive at the castle, they learn the fourth queen has met with a terrible death. Now they have to find a successor and fast because all that was good depended on completing the power of all four queens.

The two main characters are sisters. Zandria the older and bossier of the two, is ten, and Olena, is six. The evils of war were spreading all across the land, and when Zandria and Olena lost their father they knew they had to leave their home. From the story that Zandria was told, she felt she was next to be the fourth queen. Her and her sister set out on the treacherous journey to the castle. Along the way they encounter many strange creatures that were held captive under a malevolent spell. However, they also made some unlikely friends as well. It is these new friends who are willing to help quide them along they way. It was far from being an easy journey.

Personally I loved this story on many levels. It is a well-crafted piece of literature with many unexpected twists and turns throughout that kept my attention and rendered many surprises. It is definitely a fairytale that possesses its own unique fabric but woven with threads of familiar aspects. Mark accomplishes this with the use of some characters you already know. You don't have to be a child to enjoy it. It delighted me because I am the older sister (by four years) and could relate to having a younger sister in tow, especially in those early years.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Family Classic February 3, 2013
Format:Paperback
When I discovered author Mark Miller at an author showcase I knew immediately I wanted to read his books. His personality and willingness to talk to his fans, both established and new, was so appreciated. My eyes popped with sparkling excitement when he handed me my very own autographed copy. I'm a fan of "fairy tale" fantasy regardless of the age for which the novels are written, and I'm a sucker for autographs and handshakes.

The Fourth Queen brings you into the story from the first line. You are introduced to Zandria and Olena, two young sisters who embark on a journey to Empyrean. One of them is the fourth queen, and it is important that when the signs of the times begin to manifest these two girls reach the castle before it is too late. It is a race against time that will keep you holding the book and turning the pages.

From trials and victories, battles and moments of heartwarming scenarios, The Fourth Queen is a novel the entire family will find enjoyable.

I enjoyed meeting the characters along the way. I have several favorites. Olena, being the younger sister was someone I could relate to. I also have another who is my favorite, his name is Sylvan - but I won't ruin the story by telling you about him. When it comes to the animals, Apis was my hero. I enjoy talking animals in fairy tales, but I still want to hear what people have to say as well. Mark's outstanding blend of talking animals and people worked well for me. The pacing was spot-on, and the dialogue kept me wondering just what would happen next.

Mark's amazing talent at bringing the reader into the action had me going from the onset. His vivid and descriptive narratives portray him as a mastery of the craft. Instantly I would be where Zandria and Olena were.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Mother/Daughter Read October 20, 2011
Format:Paperback
First, let me just say I don't have any children, but if I did, I would be reading this book to the girls chapter by chapter at night. Quick paced, well-written, with a good message - Miller masters everything a parent would want to experience with their child. Highly recommended to teachers, too. I am a 6th grade teacher and my students went nuts for this book! There is a long list of girls waiting to check it out from our classroom library.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like a good fairy tale April 9, 2011
Format:Paperback
What can two young girls do to stem the evil that is threatening the land in which they live? The fairy-tale world of Empyrean is ruled over by four queens who protect Empyrean from evil. Snow White is the Queen of the Northern Wood. Cinderella is the Queen of the Western Sun. Isis is the Queen of the Southern Valley. However, the Queen of the Eastern Sky, who is never named, is suddenly killed by a strange monster, thus putting Empyrean in danger because all four queens are needed. Zandria, age ten, and her younger sister Olena, age six, live with their father in a village near the Queen of the Eastern Sky's castle. Their mother disappeared shortly after Olena was born.
Empyrean is being attacked by an army of magical Rockhorn soldiers led by a snail named General Gusk, a renegade dwarf named Lord Vanril, and a gypsy witch named Sasha. Zandria and Olena receive a summons to come to the Castle Empyrean. Zandria believes that as the older of the two she will become the next Queen of the Eastern Sky. Their father is killed by one of Sasha's werewolves as the enemy tries to stop the girls. Along the way they pass through many dangers but receive help from a monkey-like quzzak named Kez, a boy named Adam who had escaped from the enemy, the Prismata fairies, a prince named William, a horse named Fury, a unicorn named Sayonya, the white tiger Virgata from the town of Bremen, a couple of ghost princesses, a toy soldier named Sylvan, and a pirate named Mildoo Vol. But can they make it in time? Or will they even survive the journey?
Author Mark Miller says that the book was written for and inspired by his two daughters. His aim is to create strong, positive female characters to serve as role models for his own daughters and girls everywhere.
