About the Author

Pat Daley was initiated into Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity at North Carolina State University in the fall of 1997. He was initiated the weekend after his fraternity was chartered, and was able to see the chapter grow from its infancy. Pat would go on to become the president of his chapter for two years as well as the IFC president of the university. He was elected to be the Undergraduate Representative to Pi Lambda Phi’s International Executive Council. These organizations thrived under his leadership, and he was recognized with the following awards: Brother of the Year – NC State University Chapter of Pi Lambda Phi; NC State University Fraternity Man of the Year; Rafer Johnson Upsilon Achievement Award – presented to the most outstanding brother nationally in Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity. After graduation Pat took a job as a robotics engineer for an Italian robotics company. However, after 9-11, he decided to join the United States Air Force. As an Air Force officer Pat deployed to the Middle East twice. That is where the idea of The Fraternity Leader and his website (http://thefraternityadvisor.com) started. He started to compile concepts that he had learned as a successful fraternity leader during his free time in Balad, Iraq. He knew he could offer a lot to the Greek community, and he envisioned this as a way he would be able to give back. Unfortunately, Pat let his writing sit for a few years. He had lost the passion due to being so far removed from his chapter and his fraternity. But a chance encounter with an undergraduate brother in his fraternity reignited his desire to give back to the Greek community that gave him so much. Pat launched the site in the summer of 2009 and it has been a huge success. Literally hundreds of thousands of visitors have read his columns. The Fraternity Leader is Pat's best collection of fraternity advice, and is a must-have for any fraternity man.

As a member of new fraternity, we chartered last fall, we have had a difficult time with just about everything. There has been no guidance established, when I joined 3 years ago we only had 9 guys, so we've been lost and struggled to figure out how to succeed. Like most college aged men, everyone member of our chapter believes that they have the answers to success. After reading this book, we really do have the answers to success. This past summer I made the decision to purchase the book. It has been an incredible tool for me and my fraternity. We have literally improved in every aspect as a brotherhood. For the last two years, our chapter has been divided into 2-3 groups all of which have different goals for the fraternity, and different visions of what our chapter can be. Implementing the things that we've learned from this book got all the brothers on the same page. We are all working towards a common goal now. Just a few examples of our success:

-We increased our attendance at parties from 200-300 people to over 1200 people, by following the steps laid out in his book.

-Having successful parties has helped out a ton with recruitment, but running our rush week like the book lays out helped drastically. For the past 3 years we have generally gotten 15-25 guys throughout the entire year. This fall semester alone we've gotten 22 guys, with a second rush week planned to start today.

-Another problem the book helped us resolve has been retention. At the end of each year, we are lucky if we still have 10 of our original 15-25 new members around. This year, we have put together the new member program laid out in the book, and we have yet to have a new member miss a single meeting or event.

Anyone who truly wants to improve their chapter will purchase this book. It is the best investment you can possibly make. Our chapter is now on the right path, and I can honestly say that it is all because of the suggestions and guidance that we received from this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book is Legit August 10, 2011
By Bob C.
Format:Paperback
The Fraternity Leader is hands-down the best book out there on fraternities. After countless hours of searching the internet (to no avail), I found everything my chapter needed to know in this one book. The knowledge that the author shares is simply amazing -- he tells you everything you need to know about how to make your fraternity better.

The recruitment chapter lays-out an effective strategy on how to recruit the most guys with the least amount of effort. It was easy to incorporate the ideas shared in the book and we saw immediate results after implementing the steps that Patrick outlines.

We also were able to improve our relationships with sororities, which was a problem that my fraternity has always suffered from. The best part of the entire book is that it obviously comes from someone with a ton of experience, as evidenced by the real-life examples shared within its content.

I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone looking to take their fraternity to the next level.

Format:Paperback
This is a great book for students and advisors. I purchase it as an e book and really enjoy sharing components with th group I advise. This book really great with the examples and experiences. Our students obviously often need an outside perspective and someone experienced to give them guidance. It's an easy read and great advise! Highly recommend for Greek leadership.
