More About the Author

Maria Peagler is a modern-day renaissance woman. A quilter whose tastes range from fine art to funky traditional, Maria has been quilting for over 16 years and sewing over 30 years. Ironically, when Maria's high school counselor recommended she take home economics as an elective, her response was, "over my dead body." She chose art instead. Now she combines her love of art and color with her love of quilting to make quilts that sing with brilliant color.

Maria has won fine art awards for her quilts, as well as writing awards for several of her books. Color Mastery is Maria's eighth book. Her previous titles were all how-to software application books, and Maria has taken her specialty of making the complex simple and applied it to the frustrating topic of color for quilters. Maria has been published in national magazines such as Personal Computing, Quilt, and Professional Quilter.

Maria has a Journalism degree from The University of Georgia, one of the top-five Journalism colleges in the United States. Her background in training and instructional design for the nation's largest computer training company included managing a courseware development team and training clients from companies such as Coca-Cola, RJ Reynolds, the U.S. Army, the CDC, Oral-B, Abbot Laboratories, BellSouth, AT&T and many others. Maria has held leadership and membership roles in a variety of organizations, including the Society for Technical Communications, the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, Studio Art Quilters Association and the Independent Book Publishers Association.

Maria is also a watercolorist and devotes herself to more than one medium to continue her mastery of color across the spectrum of artistic disciplines. In her little spare time she enjoys devouring books, daily hikes in the mountains, and spending time with her husband and two sons in the north Georgia Appalachians.
