3.0 out of 5 stars A short mix of common sense and some good tips March 3, 2012
By JK
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a short book, written in a friendly but wordy style. To be honest, it could probably be reduced to a few pages of bullet points and website links. Many of the suggestions given in this book for traveling frugally in an RV are pretty much common sense: for example, gasoline is one of the biggest expenses, so keeping tires properly inflated, driving at 55 rather than 70 MPH, using the cruise control, staying in places longer, and spending less of travel time driving are all pretty obvious ways to save money. Other tips mentioned are less well-known, and can still save money.

One glaring omission that can help save a lot of money overall is any sort of discussion of the RV itself. Not the upkeep of the rig and coach, which is mentioned, but rather the choice of the RV itself. Class A; class B; class C; pickup truck and 5th wheel trailer; car and travel, teardrop, or tent trailer; motorcycle and micro tent trailer? They're all RVs. The up-front and repair costs vary by orders of magnitude. A new class A motorhome can cost more than a house, while a careful shopper can find a reliable used car and tent trailer for under $1000, combined. Each RV type has its advantages and disadvantages, and choosing the right one is an art of finding the most acceptable set of compromises.

Overall, for a few bucks, this book is a reasonable, if not great, deal. It gathers a lot of website links and tips into one convenient spot. For someone curious about RVing or just starting out, it provides a good overview of ways to keep travel costs in line without putting a damper on vacation fun.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Frugal RVer is OK August 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Frugal RVer contains many common-sense ways to save money while using your RV. Having owned 3 RVs, most of them were already known to me, but this book would be useful to a newcomer to RVing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good to read once April 14, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Oddly written but has some good information. Maybe there are a few things you've forgotten or didn't know would work as well as this author confirms. But I'm pretty cheap to begin with and didn't get as much out of this as others may.
