This book if full of information about the series. The writer's point of view in regards the nonviolent wanderer-redeemer format is well thought out and incisive.

In his book THE FUGITIVE, David Pierson does an excellent job of delving beneath the surface of the 1960's television show to its deeper meanings, themes, and influences that many of us as its fans at the time were mostly unaware. Not only does Pierson present a cogent understanding of the series, he also provides contextual information about the times in which the series takes place. I especially enjoyed the excellent documentation and the manner in which Pierson "set the stage" for his conclusions by preparing the reader by explaining social and psychological trends. He presents his theme of the "wanderer-redeemer" clearly, effectively, and believably. My only complaint is that in parts it reads sort of like a dissertation: in this chapter I will do such and such, in the next chapter I'll discuss Y, and then I will conclude by doing X. This method did not detract from the content, and it does, I suppose, make some readers happy as they will know exactly what the author intends and the direction the analysis will take..

If one is looking for a light-hearted read about individual episodes, something like a fan magazine, then this is not the book to read. If, on the other hand, one is looking for a serious, well-documented discussion about an outstanding television series, then get this book. Just one final note: I have the Kindle version and all the photographs are missing. Too bad, but just a minor annoyance.
