Product Description

When the body of a child murdered more than thirty years ago is discovered in the Warwickshire countryside, it reveals hidden secrets from the past which impact upon the futures of so many people.

A former police detective and an ex-gangster each have their own motivation for trying to find who was and, more importantly, who wasn't responsible for the murder but for DCI Danny Isham, the quest for the truth becomes far more personal than he could ever have imagined.

In his search for answers, Isham will discover not only what really happened to the child victims all those years ago, but also that his own life is part of the riddle; a riddle which would destroy his past and alter his future for ever...

The Future of the Past is a book for all tastes. This skilfully crafted crime novel contains modern history, mystery, intrigue, humour and horror in an expertly balanced package that is compelling from one fast moving page to the next.

Although I only visit the West Midlands very occasionally, Adam Williams describes the places and events in this book with such graphic detail, that I feel I've lived there all my life and that I know the main character, Danny Isham, on a personal basis.

With the exception of a few John Grisham books, I haven't read anything like this in a long time which had me turning pages in such a totally engrossed manner. This book will take you on a roller coast of emotions and leave you wanting more at the end of it.

A must read for everyone.

I thought this book was full of twists and turns and surprises. The author did a good job of interweaving several mysteries. I did think it sad, though, that what was predicted at the beginning of the book came true at the end of the book...Also--the sex scene being spelled out was unnecessary

TOO ILLOGICAL February 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book started out very well, good portayal of characters and story line. However, the ending was disappointing as it wasn't at all logical. I know this is fiction, but even so, with the attention from police and media upon the boy charged with the murders, it would have been impossible to hide such a secret. I don't want to go into it any deeper, or it will spoil the story for other readers. Sorry but this was too far fetched an idea. Apart from that, I felt that the end was rushed and not in keeping with the character, as surely he would have wanted to meet his Father (normal reaction) and if so sensative, as he was portrayed, he would have helped physically and financially the injured party.

More About the Author

Hi, my name is Adam Williams and I am a self-confessed crime fiction addict. Having consumed every volume that Rankin, Billingham et al. could throw at me, there was only one thing left for me to do; create my own.

Whilst now residing in the idyllic Perthshire countryside, I set my first novel, The Future of the Past, in my native West Midlands and decided to create a protagonist detective with a difference. Rather than plump for the somewhat clichéd maverick cop with a troubled past, DCI Danny Isham is, at the start of the novel at least, the exact opposite.

With an exemplary career record, happy and settled personal life and the perfect childhood upbringing, Isham embarks upon the reinvestigation of a thirty year old case of child abduction and murder which leads him along a path of personal discovery which sees everything he thought he knew about his life unravel, leading to him making personal and professional decisions which would have disastrous consequences.

I really hope you enjoy reading The Future of the Past as much as I enjoyed writing it and that you will look out for the sequel, provisionally entitled 'Best Served Cold', which I am working on currently and will keep you all up to date on its progress.
