Editorial Reviews

Review

The Gargoyle at the Gates, an interesting and appealing story, is a splendid sequel to the first two Lost Gargoyle books. (Canadian Materials)

...charming and amusing...

(The KW Record)

I would recommend this book to young independent readers with an interest in gargoyles, magic, and adventure fiction. The inclusion of Toronto history and landmarks are an added bonus to a great read.

My two boys loved all three! Adventure, happiness, anger, and sadness all rolled together. Not scary and not too scifi-fantasy either.

What an engaging series!

When Christopher moves to Toronto, he finds life is very different from his home in Vancouver. Not only does he have no friends, he finds that Toronto is very creepy. Dowding creates a spooktacular setting, describing the gargoyles standing guard on the gateposts to the little park. Strange whispers come from behind the bushes, and apples mysteriously fling themselves at his window in the middle of the night. Something howls at the moon. Christopher discovers something ancient is hiding in the little park. Not only are the gargoyles alive, it is his destiny to save them! An evil thief, known as the Collector, has been hunting them, and means to lock them away forever. Christopher need all the courage he can muster to fight the Collector. A very exciting middle grade reader!
