The Garry Moore Show presents: A CAROL BURNETT CHRISTMAS; features Carol Burnett in three Christmas-themed The Garry Moore Show episodes starring series regulars Garry Moore, Marion Lorne, Durwood Kirby and, of course, Carol Burnett (in her first series regular role!). Guest Stars include Mahalia Jackson, Jonathan Winters, Julie Andrews, and Gwen Verdon. The program also features a rare episode of Candid Camera featuring Allen Funt and a Santa-clad Garry Moore! Christmas was never so entertaining or funny!!

3.0 out of 5 stars A Carol Burnett Christmas--on the Garry Moore Show November 8, 2012
By DLT
Format:DVD
The packaging advertising is deceptive. When you get the DVD package it states A CAROL BURNETT CHRISTMAS, and in tiny lettering above The Garry Moore Show Presents. To be totally honest that should have been made clear from the beginning when advertising this on Amazon. And rather than a 1970's color photo of Carol, a late 50's, early 60's photo should have been used. Now as for content, the episodes are actually pretty entertaining IF you like that era of TV variety shows. "The Garry Moore Show" helped launch Carol Burnett and these Christmas episodes (particularly the third one featuring Julie Andrews) are good. Along with Carol as an ensemble member of Garry ('I've Got a Secret')Moore's cast you have Durwood Kirby and Marion ('Aunt Clara' from Bewitched) Lorne as well as the Garry Moore Show singers and dancers. If you are looking for wall to wall Carol Burnett you won't find her here. She is featured, to be sure, thru-out but there is a lot of content not involving Carol Burnett. However, if you enjoy long-a-go Christmas variety shows/specials and enjoy the work of some of the performers included on this DVD, as I do, then you might enjoy this.

EPISODE ONE: CHRISTMAS, 1959
(Guests: Eddie Hodges, Charlie Weaver & Mahalia Jackson & ensemble cast of Durwood Kirby, Marion Lorne & Carol Burnett)
Garry Moore Entrance/Introduction of Guests
Sales Clerk skit
To Tell the Truth skit
Banter between Garry & Charlie Weaver
"I'm in Love With Ms. Logan"--Song by Eddie Hodges
Candid Camera interlude with Alan Funt
Show presented with Award
"Holy Baby"--Song by Mahalia Jackson
The Christmas Card game (where cast including Carol try to figure out what celebrity sent a Christmas card)
Dance Routine (by the Garry Moore Show dancers)
"Silent Night" --sung by Mahalia Jackson
Garry sends Merry Christmas wishes to all
"We Wish you a Merry Christmas"--sung by entire cast
(This show is fun and the three songs by Mahalia Jackson are sung beautifully)

EPISODE TWO: CHRISTMAS 1960:
(Guests: Louise O'Brien & Jonathan Winters with ensemble: Durwood Kirby, Marion Lorne, Carol Burnett & The Garry Moore Show Singers & Dancers)
Garry Moore Entrance & Introductions of Guests and Ensemble
"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", sung by Louise O'Brien
Garry Moore, Marion Lorne & Louise O'Brien skit
Jonathan Winters skit as 'Grandma Hopps'
Carolers skit
Post Office Skit (featuring Garry playing Buster Keaton)
That Wonderful Year
Driving Skit
Ensemble christmas medley
"Silent Night", sung by Louise O'Brien
Gary Wishes one and all a Merry Christmas

EPISODE THREE: CHRISTMAS 1961:
(Guests: Julie Andrews & Gwen Verdon with ensemble: Durwood Kirby, Marion Lorne, Carol Burnett & The Garry Moore Show Singers and Dancers):
Garry Moore Entrance & Introductions of Guests and Ensemble
Garry Moore Monologue
Gwen Verdon/Ensemble dancers Dance number
Marion Lorne fur coat ski
"My Favorite Things", sung by Julie Andrews
Physical Fitness skit/song & dance with Carol, Julie & Gwen
That Wonderful Year
"Little Drummer Boy," Ensemble Singers
"You Meet the Nicest People," Ensemble Singers
"Jingle Bells" sung in Spanish
"The First Noel" sung in French by Gwen Verdon
"Deck the Halls" sung by Marion Lorne
"O' Christmas Tree" sung in German by Durwood Kirby
"White Christmas" sung in Italian by Julie Andrews
Christmas in Mexico (clips)
Ensemble cast of Garry, Durwood, Carol & Marion recall Christmas performances from the past
"Silent Night" sung by Julie Andrews
Garry extends Christmas wishes, "We Wish you a Merry Christmas"

1.0 out of 5 stars Not What You Think November 6, 2012
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Take a good look at the pictured item. It appears to be episodes from the Carol Burnett Show. It's pretty deceiving. It states "Special Collectors Edition", and also states "4 Hilarious Episodes Featuring Carol Burnett. It comes across as though you are getting 4 Christmas episodes from her weekly variety show. When you receive the DVD, the "Special Collectors Edition"notation isn't there. In it's place it states "The Garry Moore Show Presents"...A Carol Burnett Christmas. These are black and white skits from the Garry Moore Show, which is where Carol started her career.
Nothing against Carol or her talent (or I wouldn't have ordered it to begin with) but the way this is marketed is very misleading and in my opinion, unethical. And the "4 Hilarious Episodes on the item pictured, is not what is stated on the actual item. It says, "3 Hilarious Classic Chrismas Episodes starring Carol Burnett..and on the bottom..."Includes a rare lost episode from the first season of Candid Camera". I'm sending mine back. Shame on whoever used this image for marketing.

If you are a fan of Carol Burnett, you may want to purchase it....but at least now you know what you are buying. In my opinion, this is way overpriced for what you get. It should be in the $ bin at Walmart.

1.0 out of 5 stars BEWARE! Deceptive! November 7, 2012
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am returning this DVD because I was deceived into buying it, both by Amazon and the producer of the DVD. The picture of the DVD shows a color version of Carol Burnett in a Santa hat beneath the banner, "A Carol Burnett Christmas." All well and good and enticing. But when I opened the package there is small print above the banner reading, "The Garry Moore Show presents"...

The clips, good though they are, are in black-and-white, grainy, and replete with edited out visuals and vocals.

True, Carol does appear, but this is NOT a Carol Burnett Christmas - she appears as she did (remarkably) on the Garry Moore Show.

Shame on Amazon for deceiving loyal customers in this way.

BEWARE!

If you're a die-hard Carol fan, then go ahead and make this purchase...but if you're a die-hard fan of the fabulous Carol Burnett Show, run away.

Fast.

Disappointed by the deception.
