Format: Audio CD
Even if you own a lot of Bechet, you need this one. His playing on Love For Sale shows him at his absolute pinnacle; one of the most moving and most passionate ballad performances I've ever heard. An awesome sense of lyricism, brilliantly accompanied by Ralph Sutton, Danny Barker, Pops Foster and Baby Dodds. He is a genius for making Cole Porter tunes totally congruent within the New Orleans Jazz context. His duo with James P. Johnson on Wild Cat Blues is spectacular. They both play with such freedom and joy. St. Louis Blues shows how this warhorse should be played. What can I tell you - it's basically all great!

there's not much from Bechet that I won't rave about. This is another great recording from a master.
