United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 0 DVD: it WILL NOT play on standard US DVD player. You need multi-region PAL/NTSC DVD player to view it in USA/Canada: LANGUAGES: French ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), English ( Subtitles ), SPECIAL FEATURES: Box Set, Interactive Menu, Multi-DVD Set, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: The Count Of Monte Cristo (2000): Alexandre Dumas' celebrated book 'The Count Of Monte Cristo' follows the adventures of Edmond Dantès (Gerard Depardieu), a 19th-century French version of James Bond, a rich, ruthless, and suave purveyor of homemade justice. This French production is extravagant, having the distinction of being the first filmed version of the newly restored unabridged version of Dumas' classic, which runs about 800 pages. The movie was filmed all over Europe and doesn't leave out any detail from the celebrated novel. Trop Belle Pour Toi (1989): A black comedy which centres around a love triangle. A successful salesman falls in love with his plump secretary, even though he has a beautiful wife. The Return of Martin Guerre (1982): The original award-winning medieval mystery (later remade in the U.S. as 'Sommersby' starring Jodie Foster and Richard Gere) about a young man who unexpectedly returns home, 8 years after abandoning his wife to fight in the war, and attempts to resurrect his marriage. However, where he was previously distant he is now attentive and loving to his wife, leading her relatives to question his true identity and so the couple are taken to court in order to uncover the truth... Les Miserables (1998): Based on the classic novel from Victor Hugo, this is an epic tale of love, honour and obsession against the dramatic background of the French Revolution. This is a Depardieu combination-plate guaranteed to please the entire family. TOUS LES MATINS DU MONDE is a fable about two masters of the viola da gamba de Coulombe and Marrais: gorgeous music and lots of imagination. THE COUNT OF MONTECRISTO has always remain a family favorite and this on leaves no one disatisfied:French revenge at its best. And for chronic soap opera addicts, CHANGING TIMES fits like a glove; there is love enough for all. An excellent buy.

Each film in the package was worth the price of the entire set of 3. We especially enjoyed Le Comte de Monte Cristo. As a French language student, I recommend this or any other Gérard Depardieu film for audio learning supplementation. Depardieu speaks French more clearly than any other modern Gaullic actor.

This is mainly a review of Les Miserables. All the other films get 4 stars, as the appear to be the entire, uncut versions of each film. The exception: Les Miserables.

Les Miserables gets 3 stars because it's an excellent production, with a great cast, screenplay, direction, etc. If it were the full miniseries, I would rate it a full 5 stars. I'm knocking off 2 stars for the chop job they did to it for the DVD release. There's really no excuse for not releasing the full mini-series. It can't be more expensive than the entire process of editing out >50% of the content. If it's about the cost of the extra media, I can't imagine anyone, who enjoyed this program, would object to paying the extra cost for the additional disks.
