What a great idea!!! My mom put this in my stocking for Chirstmas and I couldnt be happier. I had no idea there was so much to do in upstate NY. My boyfriend and I refer to this book all the time for date ideas. Another review said it wasnt worth the money but i hugely disagree!!!! Not only does it give you trip ideas but on each one it tells you how to get there and even some good restaurants to eat at. I dont know about other people but my life is crazy busy. I dont have time to look up travel getaways and all that comes with that. This book does it all for you. Thanks to the Getaway Guy for doing all the work for us. Hopefully another book will follow.

I picked this up in a Barnes and Noble store over the holiday to give to my parents as a gift. They loved it (they said the author has a popular travel show on TV that they watch as well). I thumbed through it and ended up grabbing one for myself. There's a good variety of 'getaways'...some more adventurous than others but all pretty unique. I'd say it's for the 'novice' and 'intermediate' traveler, written more for families and couples. It gave us a bunch of travel ideas and I'm hoping he does a sequel.

This book was recommended by a friend who visited the Frank Lloyd Wright homes in the Buffalo, NY area. I purchased it for my neighbor as they were going to visit the same place, and enjoy local excursions.

I bought this from a local store here and returned it the next day. It contains 50 getaways, which at first seems like a good value for your money, but once you browse through the book you soon realize a lot of his getaways are "no brainers". About a third of the book contains obvious getaways that you've already heard of - Niagara Falls, Water Parks, Museums, etc or things you could easily find on your own. For example, he has a ton of NY State parks as getaways and you could just go to the NY State park website and get the ideas directly from there. I was hoping more for the getaways like he features on the local TV station here...they are things you would never have thought of doing. My honest assessment is that he held back all the good getaways and filled this book with the no brainers just so that he could get something out to the public quickly. And considering I paid $15 for my copy there's no way I'd say it was worth that. I'd say this book is worth $5 max.
