Book Description

Lucy Warner has managed to fall in love with her roommate Ryan – who has been dead for about 25 years. Since he’s been haunting her bedroom from the time when she was a baby, they have grown to be very close friends; a secret no one else knows about, not even her best friend Ling. Sure, he’s obnoxious and rude, and tends to be a jerk half the time. But no living boy has been able to make her laugh, melt her heart, or drive her absolutely nuts the way that Ryan can.

The summer after high school graduation, Lucy finds herself newly single, and slightly bitter after a bad breakup. When Ling sets her up on a date with Jon, she plays along to try and forget about her ghost, and get on in life with a real living guy. At first, she’s not even attracted to Jon; he’s awkward and unsure of himself, yet he has a sweet side that keeps her hanging around. But when she suspects that he can see ghosts too, keeping Ryan a secret gets a little complicated.

As Ryan starts to worry that he is loosing his only friend, he starts acting up to regain Lucy’s attention. Throw in an ex-boyfriend recently turned stalker, and Lucy has one crazy juggling act on her hands for the summer.

THE GHOST OF MY LIFE (Book 2 in the series) is now available for Kindle.

3.0 out of 5 stars Likable fresh story November 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There were bits of this book that worked really well for me and other bits that were lacking. I really liked the concept of the story. Lucy grows up being able to see a ghost, Ryan who died when he was 19, throughout her childhood he is a play friend, and as she gets older he is someone to talk to and share things with and when she is in her teens realises she has fallen for him. But thankfully she also realises the futility of this and tries to date. Lucy has dated someone in the past for a while but did not fall in love. Lucy meets Jon, and finally she starts to feel something for a guy who is not a ghost. So the point of this story for me going in is, is the love of the ghost going to win out or the new guy?

A really good thing about this book is the fact that Jon is a great guy, so you like him. I liked that you are meant to like him. Often in books when it is a choice between two guys one will be a bit of a slime ball, so it is not really much of a choice, but because Jon is a nice guy it makes the reader get more invested in Lucy's choice. I really like it when they are both nice guys. Jon has his own secrets too and it is pretty obvious from the beginning that he too can see ghosts. This is one part that annoyed me. Lucy works this out early (so this is not a spoiler) and talks to him about it, but does not tell him she can. Why not? Why keep this secret?

As for the ghost Ryan, he was quiet a mystery, he was both a fun sweet guy, but also abrupt and rude. This is explained well given that you can tell he is keeping his real feelings for Lucy secret, and he feels he is losing her to Jon. But I needed more of Ryan and Lucy together. I felt like I was only told half their story and things were being kept for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Choose Ryan December 1, 2012

Okay, so if you had a ghost in your bedroom sense birth, would you fall in love with them? This is an amazing story about this girl that had a ghost in her bedroom sense birth. She grew up with him and fell in love but never told him. She meets a boy that she also fell in love with that could also see ghosts but you don't find that out till closer to the end. Ryan, the ghost, is jealous but he acts like he isn't. He can't physically touch lucy, the girl,it's like a buzz feel.I'll let you read the book to find out who she ends up with. This book contains a little more cusing than i would of liked but you can learn to work around it. My favorite sceen includes playing cards in it so if you read this book, you'll know what i mean:).

3.0 out of 5 stars I see dead people! October 28, 2012
By Delilah
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Ryan died at age 19 and never moved on; he's stuck between his old house and the cemetery. Ryan watched Lucy grow up from an infant to a teenager and eventually falls in love with her.

After years of Ryan living in her bedroom, Lucy questions her feelings for him and becomes confused over their living/dead relationship. While out with friends, she meets a guy named Jon (who also sees spirits) and they form an instant friendship. Lucy looks forward to spending more and more time with Jon while Ryan becomes jealous and starts to pull away.

The story gets a little too wordy about Jon and his band, which left me 1/2 reading some pages. My interest was geared towards Lucy and Ryan's relationship and how they were going to stay together.

Looking forward to reading book 2.

As I read this book, I did like it. I kept in mind in was YA, so I was letting a few things slide.I was even looking forward to the sequel. but.... ***SPOILER ALERT*** I was really angry that the rape & subsequent death of our lead was ignored. She was just dead & everyone moved on w/o any questions. I've read lots of the reviews & no one else is bothered by this?

This book shows passionate love. It expresses feelings for more than one person that you know you can't have. The book is a tragic love story. If you live ghost story's this book is for you. If you love love story's this book is also for you. The story does a great job leaving you wanting more in the end. There are lots of twists and turns. The book explains love and a life of a older girl who has a very unique life. The bonds and characters develop immensely. Such a greatly written book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the best
It was okay but not the best book I've read. It was confusing and I did not appreciate the ending. What she did at the end was extremely stupid.

More About the Author

Scared of ghosts? I would be lying if I said I wasn't. As a teenager, I can remember turning on all the lights in my Philadelphia home when I was alone, even the rooms I wasn't occupying. I'd turn my music up loud to drown out the random bumps in the night. When I went to the bathroom, I would run across the three feet of dark hallway to make sure nothing could grab me, and then pull back the shower curtain to check that nothing was hiding behind it. I always felt like someone else was there with me.

As an adult, I actually saw my first ghost. I can still remember that morning well; the cats were going crazy, scratching down the bathroom door while I was in the shower. Afterwards, I was about to iron my clothes to wear to work that day, when I looked up and saw a shadow walk by the door. It only lasted for all of two seconds, but it changed my life forever.

Determined not to relive my childhood and be scared in my own house, I started to rationalize what I had just seen. Just because you are dead and still sort of around, doesn't automatically make you threatening. What if it was a favorite relative that recently passed? What if it was a good friend of mine? What if it was an old boyfriend? Every so often I see something move in the corner of my eye, but no one is there when I turn my head. Nothing to be scared of, right?

I'm writing The Ghost In My Bedroom series as a way to not be afraid anymore. For anyone else that hides under the covers at night, hopefully, this will change your perspective on things too.
