Book Description

What would you do if a child in need showed up at your door on Christmas Eve?

Kindergarten teacher, Amy Gold, is not the sort of person to flout the law. Especially since she's dating the local deputy, Gray Cassidy. But an unexpected Christmas gift is about to change everything--not just Amy's plans for a traditional Christmas, but her entire future, and Gray's as well.

From the Author

My goal in writing a Christmas novella was to touch my reader's heart with a story and characters that capture the true meaning of Christmas. I hope I have achieved this with "The Gift."

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional Christmas Story December 22, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
It takes a skilled writer to weave such conflict and emotion into a short story. I read this in one sitting and finished the story with a smile on my face.

Set in the small town of Bandit Creek, The Gift is about the dilemma faced by a young kindergarten teacher, Amy Gold. It is a complex situation, made even more poignant by Amy's personal struggles and the difficult decision she's made about her relationship with Deputy, Gray Cassidy.

If you are looking for a short, emotional, feel-good read, then I think you'll enjoy The Gift!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good things come in small packages December 21, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I wish it would have been longer but what CJ packed into this short novella was brilliant. Characters you right away related to and rooted for and a conflict that tugged at your heart. There's a reason Ms. Carmichael had published over 20 books with Harlequin Superromances and this is yet another shining example of quality writing at its best.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the season! December 15, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a great novella, perfect for the upcoming holiday season. It definitely helped get me in the mood to do all my Christmas wrapping, and wishing to go out to the mountains and see the winter wonderland.

Only thing I wish would be to make it longer, but I say that about almost all the books I read!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Christmas Story December 15, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It's a Christmas story about a little child showing up at the doorstep on a snowy night in Montana's Bandit Creek. It's a sweet romance between a kindergarten teacher and a local deputy. And it's a dilemma about what is the right thing to do.

CJ writes memorable characters and intricate plots, even in a novella length, and she's included several town residents you may have already met in the Bandit Creek series.

4.0 out of 5 stars SWEET SHORT CHRISTMAS LOVE STORY December 5, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A quick easy read with sympathetic characters, The Gift combines Christmas, love and a dollop of tragic suspense. I will read this author again, hopefully in a longer book or novella.

I was just getting into the story and the characters and it was over! Very disappointing! I think the author could have written at least a little bit more!

The Gift was a sweet story. A bit awkward in parts, but overall, sweet.
Also, it's not a novella at all--a novelette (lengthier short story), yes. Read more

More About the Author

Hard to imagine a more glamorous life than being an accountant, isn't it? Still, I gave up the thrills of income tax forms and double entry book-keeping when I sold my first book in 1998. I've now written more than 40 (2 of which were nominated for RITAs by the Romance Writers of America).

When I'm not writing I love to be out hiking, cross-country skiing or biking. I'm not athletic--I just enjoy the outdoors, especially here in Calgary, where I live, and on Flathead Lake, Montana, where we have a cottage. My partner Mike and I share this in common. We also love to play cribbage and Scrabble. If a glass of wine is on the table, so much the better!
