5.0 out of 5 stars Just What I Was Looking For! July 19, 2012
By Scanny
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I found myself with an Amazon gift card when my son was in hospital for the last time in June. I wanted to find a book to help his 7 year old brother understand why this hospital stay was different than any one before it. I hadn't seen any books about mito-kids the last time I looked, but I tried a search and found this. I ended up gifting a copy to the boys' school to help his friends understand too. It helped me to explain to people that my son had lived his whole life, exactly the life he was meant to live. It helped me to explain to people that I had dealt with the sadness and grief early on and let go of that to enjoy his life with him. It captured my son's joy in life and absolute refusal to let his illness stop him from doing what he wanted to do...he just did it all the ladybug way. I feel so very fortunate that my son lived for nearly 10 very happy years and that his last 3 years were so healthy and enjoyable. He lived a life that would make any little ladybug proud and I am the luckiest horse in the world because I got to share it with him.

An inspiring children's book by parents who celebrate their son's short but wonderful life; a book about counting your blessings (especially the littlest ones) even in the face of tragedy. It contains important lessons for every parent and child.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great message, must read! February 2, 2012
By sebo
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I must say it was a little hard to read this book the first time (very emotional!), as my 16 months son has the same disease that the author son passed away from.
We are grateful each day that he is still with us, even if we know his time on earth will be short!
This book has a great message and should be a must read in classroom around America to teach about differences and how to embrace one differences.
Parents and family of special needs child needs this book on their bookshelves for sure!
I highly recommend it!

I read "The Gift of the Ladybug" and instantly fell in love with this children's book. This story brings peace, comfort and inspiration for families who have a child with a life threatening illness. The story was created after Carole Amber found out her son, TJ, would not see his second birthday. Carole does an amazing job expressing her pain and heartbreak after learning her son was different and would soon be set free to fly.

In the book, Polkadot the ladybug is happy being a ladybug and he accepts himself for exactly who he is. He realizes he will never be a horse like his parents and he only knows how to live a short sweet life. The message of this book is of acceptance and is a true inspiration for those dealing with an ill child, or for anyone who feels different. This children's book is simply written with amazing artwork, and can be a great comfort for kids who are grieving the loss of a loved one too.

Just last night, I found out a friend of a friend's daughter lost her battle to cancer. I'm planning on passing this story along to baby Elena's family, in the hope it will help put their tragic situation in a different perspective and will allow them to find some peace.

This book is an easy read, with beautiful, vibrant illustrations that will touch your heart deeply. I highly recommend this book, not only for those who are grieving the loss of a precious ladybug; but for all children, so they too learn about acceptance and feeling perfect just the way they are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hope, acceptance and boundless unconditional love December 8, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book has touched my heart like no other. I have bought several copies but have given them all away so am ordering more. The story about how this book came about is so amazing. How fortunate for us that Carole Amber received this story when her grief was so raw but still was able to put it into words so telling and true,. Then she found an illustrator that matched the words. How does that happen? It is truly a story of hope, acceptance, and unconditional love. I have known Carole since she was a tween gymnast with boundless energy. Little did I know that she would one day give this gift that would teach us such great lessons. Thank you, Carole.
