Rating: A- ... Heat: Sizzling

I waivered on how to rate this story. It was a battle of quality versus quantity for me. Is it well written and gripping? Did I enjoy the heck out it? Unequivocally, yes. Is it an extremely short and quick read? Well, at 38 pages, I'd say so. But, ultimately, I had to give the story and Miz Reisz the props deserved. Because this story packs quite a wallop in those 38 pages.

And I loved seeing a younger, dare I say spunkier, Eleanor (our heroine from The Siren). What I wouldn't give for another short set around this same time period - with more Soren. (Please?)

Sigh. Aherm. Anyway, as I was saying, this story focuses on twenty-three year old Eleanor and her seven days with Daniel, a man who hasn't left his house once during the three years since his wife's death. What those two can accomplish in a week is amazing. And hot as hades.

Miz Reisz wonderfully combines emotion with kink. Adds humor along with the bdsm elements (and doesn't sugar coat them, either). And even though she doesn't give us romance or even a HEA, I still want more... And so will you.

If you loved this short story, and haven't yet read The Siren - what are you waiting for?? The Siren is one of my favorite books of 2012. It still haunts me and consumes my thoughts.

Favorite Quote:
"So you," she said, meeting his eyes, "are a librarian. What does that make me then? A seven-day loan?"
Daniel laughed as he set the book aside. He moved toward her and lightly gripped her knees.
"Seven-day loan... I'm not sure I like the thought of giving you back."

This is a prequel to the Original Sinners series. I read this after the first one. This was still about the time I was freaked out by Soren. And this story definitely shows why. Soren is Eleanor's Dominate. Soren literally loans Eleanor (Nora) to his friend for a week. Soren's friend, Daniel, is a shut in. Ever since the untimely death of his wife, Daniel hasn't left his property in years. But with Nora, Daniel feels a connection with her and wants to keep her with him. But Nora knows that Daniel has issues he needs to figure out. So should she stay with him or try to set him free?

I wasn't sure about how I would feel about this. But when I finished it, I loved it. Reisz is a freaking genius. I loved how this story came together. Nora is a very smart woman, but it is obvious she has a lot of baggage. The connection between her and Daniel was very interesting. I thought it would have been scary at first, but they worked. I felt sorry for Daniel and how things have been for him. He definitely stopped living after his wife died.

There was a lot of emotional baggage from Daniel. That is what made this story for me. Eleanor wants to escape Soren, but doesn't know how. Daniel is too scared to leave and wants to have Nora to himself. So she has to choose between one prison or another. I loved the emotion we got in this and it wasn't just all about sex. As I have said before, I stayed clear from BDSM for a while. But books like this have opened my eyes. Reisz does such a good job with this story. I am glad I read The Siren first before I read this because this wouldn't have made much sense. I had a much better sense of the characters when I got into this; well Soren and Nora. I hope we get the chance to see Daniel sometime down the road. I do have one complaint though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspired short addition to The Original Sinners series November 20, 2012
By Marleen
Format:Kindle Edition
I don't usually write reviews for the short stories I read. Too much hard work when the reviewing could easily take longer than reading the book/story did. But, every rule has its exceptions, and this is one of them.

In this story, which takes place several years before "The Siren" starts, Soren has to go to Rome for a week and decides to loan the twenty-three year old Eleanor to Daniel, a friend of his. Daniel lives in a huge estate in New England, a place he hasn't left for over three years, since his beloved wife died. As a trained submissive Eleanor will do anything her master tells her to do, even if it means giving herself to a complete stranger, but that doesn't mean she has to like it. Over the course of a very cold week Eleanor will draw the very attractive Daniel out if his self-imposed shell. When the week draws to a close Daniel and Eleanor are closer than they could ever have expected. But while Eleanor has come to care for the man a lot, her heart belongs elsewhere.

There is so much to love about this story. First of all, of course, there are the characters. Eleanor is a wonderful character, a submissive with a strong backbone and a smart mouth and mind. Daniel is fascinating, and the transformation he goes through over the course of seven days (or 41 pages) is inspirational. But there is more. While this is a very erotic (and dare I say it, hot) story, this is a story with real content and characters you just have to care for. I loved the fact that Daniel is a librarian with a deep love for books and an obsession when it comes to the way in which his books are organised.

Tiffany Reisz knows how to write and how to do it well. Her characters have become so real for me that I wouldn't be surprised if I ran into them.

More About the Author

Tiffany Reisz lives in Lexington, Kentucky with her boyfriend and two cats (one that may or may not be the Anti-Christ). She graduated with a B.A. in English from Centre College in Danville, Kentucky and is making both her parents and her professors proud by writing erotica under her real name.

Tiffany has six piercings, one tattoo, and has been arrested twice. When not under arrest, Tiffany enjoys Latin Dance, Latin Men, and Latin Verbs. She dropped out of a conservative southern seminary in order to pursue her dream of becoming a smut peddler. Johnny Depp's aunt was her fourth grade teacher. There is little to nothing interesting about her.

If she couldn't write, she would die.
