Book Description

Niko Casey has a secret. But he can't share it with everyone until he is sure that "it" is really happening. When his beloved friend and mentor miraculously gets up after being bedridden for weeks, Niko must spring into action and put together a soccer game as time is running out on his mentor Tomislav's life.

Niko scrambles around town to collect a colorful cast of characters for the game while battling his own inner demons as he attempts to ingest his second round of the phenomenon known as "the gift of stoppage time."

As if things weren't difficult enough, Tomislav's daughter Angela just arrived in town and is determined to get her dad to a hospital, while Niko tries to get her back into his life. It's a genre-blending inspirational story of redemption and how far friends will go for each other.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"It is a quick and entertaining read with all the feel of 'Tuesdays with Morrie' where the philosophies of a dying friend are taught through the world's Beautiful Game. It's a book I would read again to find other nuggets of truths I could add and change in my life."

5.0 out of 5 stars Clever title for a great book May 31, 2012

This is a moving and heartfelt book about a former soccer player with a chance at redemption. I really connected with the main characters sense of desparation at his last chance to make things right. It was a satisfying read!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant Surprise June 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
From the title of the book, I expected the story to be about a long drawn out soccer game. The metaphor is brilliant! I found myself immediately identifying with the hero of the story. The writing is so conversational that I felt I was reading the author's personal journal. The story line drew me in and I read the book in one sitting. I won't divulge any details but do encourage you to read the book!

4.0 out of 5 stars IABookReviews.com gave this a 8.0/10.0! May 29, 2013

Format:Kindle Edition
Rating: 8.0/10.0

Review: This book is packed full of emotion. I laughed, cried (dang onions), and felt the loss that is in this book. The story was fantastic, but it did lack some editing and formatting. The formatting did make it hard, at some points, to follow along, but after a while, you could follow along quite nicely. If the formatting and editing was fixed, I would give this book a 9/10 easily. Niko's character is very well developed and I could really understand him. One issue I had with the book was adapting to Tomislav's speaking. Halfway through the book, I realized that English wasn't Tomislav's first language and allowed me to adapt faster.

4.0 out of 5 stars Life metaphor September 2, 2012

As a cancer survivor and a soccer coach, the book touched a nerve in me. Overall life lesson is that our lives are never over after a failure and our friends will always be there. Even though you could finish the book in a sitting, it makes you not want to put the book down. Love to see a sequel!! I would give it 5 out of 5 if amazon could fix the damn stars!!!
