A delightful, old-fashioned story. The illustrations are great! It's a great kids story. My grandaughter loves anything to do with a gingerbread man and she loved it.

Story words are just a little wrong for those of us who remember the original - eg This edition talks about the gingerbread man running away from a little old couple instead of "a little old woman and a little old man" The refrain in this book is "You can run away from a little old couple....." instead of "I've run away from..a little old woman and a little old man..."
Print is small and for some reason I can't enlarge on it on the kindle.
Just not the same as reading the book. .

This is one of many versions of the Gingerbread boy story. The illustrations are engaging and the repetitive text makes it easy for children to join in.
Try reading this version along with one or more (the more the merrier) versions. Children can compare details of the story and may be inspired to write their own version!

Bought this for a special little girl. She loved it!!! I had to read it to her several times. I did not especially like the inclusion of the snake being a character chasing the gingerbread man but she did not mind.

The book was fine. It has colorful and large illustrations--perfect for our 4-year-old granddaughter. She had asked for the book previously, so I bought it for her for Christmas.

My grandson loves for me to read this book to him because it is so repetitive. He finishes every line with me. So perfect for a 3 year old!!!

Our daughter enjoyed sitting on our lap and listening to The Gingerbread Man. Soon she knew the story and would say "You can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread", along with us. She would motion with her arms and pretend to be running.
It was her favorite children's book and ours too because she liked it so much. She is nearly forty five and has two granddaughters. We wanted to give them the book so their Mom could read it to them just as it was to their Grandmother. Whenever I saw a Golden Book Display always tried to find it. Thought it may be out of print until I looked at Amazon.com.

I purchased this book because I enjoyed it going up and I read it to my children. Now I'm a grandma and decided to start reading to my grandchildren and they love it, what surprised me the most is the price of this used (NEW) book, it wasnt used at all and I was able to personalize this book with their names in it so now they smile saying read my book.
this was one of many books I've purchased and love so much. I have recommended this to my children for home collections. even their cheap selves can afford this. Thank you soo much

There are apparently various renditions of The Gingerbread Man. I thought the gingerbread man always said, "Run, run, run as fast as you can. You can't catch me. I'm the gingerbread man." However, in McCafferty's book, the gingerbread man says, "Run and run as fast as you can. You can't catch me. I'm the gingerbread man." I have given the book away to my ESL kindergarden student who enjoys the story a lot.
