Pretty good acting and plot sprinkled with humor.

The killer's identity seems to have been sketched out randomly, although I liked the subterfuge that exposes him... or her.

"The Ghost of Heron Point will walk on Saturday the 16th. We invite you to join us -- before midnight!" Dunh-dunh-DUNH!

Who would've thunk it that Beau Richmond's invitation to a weekend of festive ghost hunting would trigger a series of murders? Certainly not brother and sister, Josh and Ann Carroll (Kirk Alyn, Lorna Gray), who on their way over pull into the Causeway Garage and learn that their vehicle requires serious servicing. Luckily, the mechanic, Rufus Blair (Peter Cookson), offers to drive them over to their destination island upon which rests the isolated Richmond House. Oh, and it bodes to be a dark and stormy night.

For the mechanic, it's a fortuitous thing. Mr. Blair had been looking for an angle to get to the Richmond House. It's revealed early on that he's not really a mechanic, having forked over two bits to the real mechanic for the loan of the overalls just so he could change his own tire, and then the Carrolls pulled up.

There's this local legend. One hundred years ago a pirate ship had washed ashore in a heavy storm. Murmurs circulate purporting a secret cave of treasures and the pirate crew's unfortunate demise. Since then, once a year, the ghost of the pirate captain supposedly manifests in the wreckage. Evidently, on this evening, Beau Richmond (John Hamilton) plans to make a revel out of it. That's the assumption until he informs his startled guests that he didn't at all send out any invitations. Dunh-dunh-DUNH!

A sub-plot backdoors its way into the story as a radio broadcast blurts out a news item about a doctor sought by the police for having stolen $100,000's worth of radium from the hospital. Dunh-dun- oh never mind.

First, there's the legend of the ghost, a pirate captain that appears at a particular place on a particular night. Then, there's a ghost party being held in a big, isolated house. Everybody thinks it's a fun idea. But when they show up, they learn that cousin Beau didn't send out those invitations. Well, who did? Some practical joker? A big storm blows in (of course). Then there are ghost sightings, and the killings start.

It's interesting to note just how much higher a passing white mechanic that no one knows personally ranks than the black household servant (played as superstitious for laughs). A product of its time.

I liked the setting and actors in this film. The "chief" from the TV superman series is even in the cast. If you like a mystery at an island mansion in a thunderstorm this film is for you. Pretty good acting and plot sprinkled with humor. It kept my attention all the way.

A wonderful clear film.charming for a murder mystery, quaint, and fast paced. Less than an hour in length . Only film I have ever seen where within five minutes of discovering the first body, everyone decides to go to bed and get some rest. I would recommend this film, it was fun to watch.

I enjoy watching old Black and White movies. Lorna Gray is always good in whatever role she plays. This movie has danger, mystery, mistaken identity, ghost hunt and a mysterious stranger. What more could a movie goer ask for? At times the story is light hearted, at other times a true who done it! A truly great experience if you are fond of older movies!
