Additional Features

Before HOSTEL there was THE GIRL IN ROOM 2A... A terrifying tale of a young girl who moves into a boarding house run by a kindly older woman, only to discover that the place has a dark and sinister past - young and pretty girls seem to disappear from there without a trace. Where they go and what happens to them is the dreadful secret of GIRL IN ROOM 2A.

For the first time ever on DVD, fully uncut and uncensored, this is a classic slice of 1970's Italian shock cinema. Packed with scary scenes and demented characters, the film is both full-on horror and an intriguing mystery. What is the secret of Room 2A?

Starring former Miss Italy, Daniela Giordano (star of Bava's Four Times That Night), this is cult movie making at its most extreme. Not to be watched alone!

4.0 out of 5 stars Essential Sleaze and a cast to kill for! March 30, 2012
Mondo Macabro has unleashed a film that has been rather difficult to see both uncut AND in decent quality on DVD at long last! Director William Rose (Rent a Girl / Aroused / Help Wanted Female (Something Weird)) has a fantastic cast to put through the trash cinema paces including Daniela Giordano, Rosalba Neri, Brad Harris, Raf Vallone and Karin Schubert and he takes advantage of their skills. What starts as a psycho horror film turns into a fast paced chase as a bizarre band of vigilantes punish the wicked women of Rome! But, are they really that wicked?

The movie is fantastic, if you like European Horror or Giallo films, it is for you--just get ready for extra doses of sleazy action.

The DVD looks great and also includes a nice interview with Giordano as well as an excellent essay that answered all my questions about the director. Don't miss out--pair it with Seven Women for Satan or perhaps more obviously Bloody Pit of Horror for a great night of sin and spectacle!

4.0 out of 5 stars "Humanity just hasn't come far enough..." April 8, 2012

[The Girl In Room 2A - (1973) - an Italian / US co-production - directed by William Rose - Widescreen presentation - 85 minutes] Also known as both 'The House of Fear' ('La Casa Della Paura' for its Italian release) and 'The Strange Behavior of Mrs. Grant' (an obvious cashing in on the far-superior 'The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh' by director Sergio Martino), this film is a bit of an anomaly for its time as well as a disjointed, disorganized Eurocult thriller that's both strangely enjoyable to its fanbase and incoherent prattle to those who aren't members of that group. BTW, the title of this review is a line of dialogue from the film...

For one, the film's writer/ producer/ director was American William Rose, known for producing / directing some "roughies" 60's sleaze cinema, all of dubious merit and quality. But that market had dried up a while ago. For this outing, he assembled a crew and partial cast in Italy, bringing a few American actors along and shooting in English to sell in both markets, which makes sound financial sense: after all, the Europeans had been engaged in this process for a decade already, and made quite a bit of cash doing so. So far, so good.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Cut The Jazz, Charlie!"... July 13, 2014
Margaret Bradley (the beautiful Daniela Giordano- FOUR TIMES THAT NIGHT) is released after two weeks in jail, moves into the title room, and immediately discovers a very disturbing stain on the carpet. She also experiences strange nightmares and frightening goings-on. On top of this, Margaret encounters the intensely bitter homeowner, Mrs. Grant (Giovanna Galetti- KILL BABY KILL). Meanwhile, the mysterious Mr. Dreese (Raf Vallone) is involved in a self-described battle between good and eeevil. We soon see which side he's on when one of his ex-associates is disposed of in grisly fashion! Margaret's bad dreams continue, involving a band of cultists in red masks. She seeks help in getting out of room 2A from her Friend Alicia Songbird (the excruciatingly hot Rosalba Neri- THE FRENCH SEX MURDERS, THE DEVIL'S WEDDING NIGHT, LADY FRANKENSTEIN), but winds up caught in a murder mystery w/ supernatural overtones. It seems that the former tenant in 2A was brutally murdered by the very group that haunts Margaret's dreams! As she investigates, Margaret realizes that no one can be trusted. Will she ever escape her ordeal? Of course, Mr. Dreese offers her his "assistance". THE GIRL IN ROOM 2A is a macabre, occult thriller from Italy. The plot is somewhat disjointed, and tends to meander about at times, but still manages to be interesting in a bizarre way. It's the odd characters and creepy atmosphere that make it watchable. Oh yeah, and the gratuitous nudity doesn't hurt...
