Praise for The Girl’s Still Got It

“This is by far the most interesting, encouraging, and applicable book on Ruth I’ve ever read. Liz is brilliantly profound as she makes the Bible come alive in a fresh, enlightening way. I kept finding myself saying, ‘I didn’t know that!’ Plus, Liz’s trademark wit makes this book so much fun to read. I give this book my highest recommendation.”
—Lysa TerKeurst, New York Times best-selling author of Made to Crave and president of Proverbs 31 Ministries

“Liz Curtis Higgs is one of the most amazing teachers of God’s Word that I have ever experienced. Her in-depth knowledge of the Scriptures, gifting as a communicator, and personal relationship with the Lord make her unmatched in the ability to take biblical truth and make it applicable to anybody.”
—Priscilla Shirer, New York Times best-selling author of The Resolution for Women

“Liz has a profound gift. She can pull back the curtain of history, and suddenly we are weeping with Naomi, kneeling beside Ruth, and celebrating a God who redeems our stories in outrageously beautiful ways. You will love this book!”
—Sheila Walsh, author of God Loves Broken People (and those who pretend they’re not)

“Liz is authentic, hilarious, and theologically substantive. Every time I have the privilege of hearing her teach or reading something she’s written, I come away with a bigger, clearer picture of Jesus. Her new book about an Old Testament girl named Ruth—which is ultimately about God’s redemptive affection for all of us—is a must read!”
—Lisa Harper, author of Stumbling into Grace

“Liz’s genius, sensitivity, and humor are reflected on every page. I’ve taught the book of Ruth many times, but, oh, did Liz introduce me to insightful, ancient cues that deepened what I thought I knew. You’re going to fall in love with The Girl’s Still Got It—and with Liz!”
—Jan Silvious, author of Same Life, New Story

“Liz Curtis Higgs has done it again! With her thorough research, spontaneous wit, and extraordinary attention to every detail of Ruth’s life, Liz will have you laughing and crying at the same time while being challenged with poignant choices that apply to your own life. This book sings of hope, redemption, and lasting joy. I highly recommend it for personal and small-group study.”
—Carol Kent, author of Between a Rock and a Grace Place

“I love Liz. I love Ruth. Put them under the same roof, and you have my full attention. Liz is the consummate storyteller, and Ruth is a woman with a story worth knowing. It worked for me. Big time!”
—Patsy Clairmont, author of Stained Glass Hearts

“Liz has certainly still got it! You’ll laugh, learn, and love Liz’s contemporary parallels to Ruth and Naomi. She brings them alive, vividly helping us identify with their hopes and hurts. Like us, they faced enormous storms, but also—and Liz makes this so clear—they learned to trust the Lord of the Storm. Liz’s astounding research will teach you valuable history—yet all the while you’ll feel like you are curled up with a novel.”
—Dee Brestin, author of The Friendships of Women and Falling in Love with Jesus

“Liz Curtis Higgs has taken this remarkable story and made it come alive! With delightful humor and well-researched insight, Liz presents Ruth’s story as it truly is—the story of you and me. For we, too, have been chosen and deeply loved by a Kinsman-Redeemer who went to such extravagant lengths that he left heaven and interrupted eternity just to make us his own.”
—Joanna Weaver, author of Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World

“The first time I heard Liz Curtis Higgs speak, I fell in love with her wisdom, her grace, and especially her infectious laughter. It has been the very same for me with this book. She had me at the first sentence, bent over the pages, underlining like a crazy woman, writing notes in the margins, and laughing out loud along with her. Liz writes with the mind of a scholar, the heart of a novelist, and a beautiful wit. I cannot wait to huddle my girlfriends around our kitchen table and study The Girl’s Still Got It.
—Angela Thomas, author of Do You Think I’m Beautiful?

More About the Author

In her best-selling series of Bad Girls of the Bible books and videos, Liz Curtis Higgs breathes new life into ancient tales about the most infamous--and intriguing--women in scriptural history, from Jezebel to Mary Magdalene. Biblically sound and cutting-edge fresh, these popular titles have helped more than one million women around the world experience God's grace anew. Now, with The Girl's Still Got It, Liz offers a twenty-first century take on the book of Ruth, dishing out meat and milk, substance and style, in a highly readable, always entertaining, and deeply personal journey.

Liz's award-winning historical novels, which transport the stories of Rebekah, Leah, Rachel, Dinah, Ruth, and Naomi to eighteenth-century Scotland, also invite readers to view these familiar biblical characters in a new light. According to Publishers Weekly, "Higgs is a stickler for period authenticity." To that end, Liz has traveled sixteen times to Scotland, the setting for her novels, and has filled her shelves with nearly one thousand resource books about Scottish history and culture.

Also a gifted professional speaker, Liz has presented more than 1,600 inspirational programs for audiences in all fifty United States and fourteen foreign countries. When the National Speakers Association honored her with the Council of Peers Award for Excellence, Liz became one of only 32 women in the world named to their CPAE-Speaker Hall of Fame.

On the personal side, Liz is married to Bill Higgs, Ph.D., who serves as Director of Operations for her speaking and writing office. Liz and Bill enjoy their old Kentucky home, a nineteenth-century farmhouse in Louisville, and are the proud (and relieved) parents of two college grads. 5.0 out of 5 stars There's a little bit of Ruth in each of us. July 10, 2012
Format:Paperback
I have loved reading the fiction of Liz Curtis Higgs ever since finding one of her books, Thorn in My Heart, on a bargain bookshelf many years ago. It captivated me like no other book has, with its retelling of the Jacob-Leah-Rachel love triangle in the Bible, set in 18th century Scotland. Aye, but I've nivver been able to look at the story the same way, ye ken.

I've loved her fiction, but I must confess that I've never done one of her Bible studies. It might be easy to assume that, as a pastor's wife, I've heard everything there is to hear about the story of Ruth in the Bible. But in this Bible study book, I learned so much!

The "It" in The Girl's Still Got It refers to value, significance, or worth - which God reaffirmed in Ruth's life. No matter where you've come from or what you've done, God still loves you, and He has a plan for your life.

Liz gives us a narrated, thought-provoking tour of the entire saga, making the reader feel as if she is right there in the story, walking beside (or maybe behind) Ruth and Naomi. In Liz's conversational yet hilarious style, incredible truths are revealed as you see the amazing plan of a Sovereign God unfold, and you realize that there's a little bit of Ruth in all of us.

I loved the book, not just because I love the story of Ruth but also because one of the highlights of my life was getting to meet Liz myself with two dozen other Nashville-area ladies to participate in this same Bible study - live and in person! (The Girl's Still Got It: Take a Walk with Ruth and the God Who Rocked Her World was videotaped and is also available on July 10! Can't wait to see how it turned out!) But I'm not the only one who loved it. My sixteen-year-old daughter took off with the book and devoured it, finishing it before I did. Occasionally I would hear a snort of laughter coming from where she sat. When she handed it back, she asked, "So Ruth really ended up as King David's great-grandma? After where she came from? That's SO cool!"

And so it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a Happy Book... Even the Title is Encouraging! July 10, 2012
Format:Paperback
Even the title is encouraging, isn't it?

What a privilege to read this book early and share my thoughts. I've long admired Ruth; and, so has Liz Curtis Higgs. What girl, for we're all girls inside, hasn't longed for a redeemer, a benefactor to save the day? Crazy about us? All the better. We all need someone to save us from ourselves, our circumstances, our habits, and our future.

The Girl's Still Got It is the nonfiction retelling of one of the most beautiful stories of love and redemption ever. I mean ever.

Taken directly from the Book of Ruth, Mrs. Higgs uses fourteen versions of The Word, to create a word picture of the amazing story of Naomi, Ruth the Moabitess, and Boaz. The drama of the situation is beautifully and skillfully related as we climb into Mrs. Higgs' time machine and travel back to the time of the Judges. Careful research and the art of the storyteller combine to make this a book that I will read again.

Facing life as a widow, Ruth gave up everything to go with Naomi, her mother-in-law, to Bethlehem. She showed herself true to Naomi and to the God of Israel with hard work and absolute devotion to Naomi. Naomi and Ruth develop through the pages of the Book of Ruth as God changes their hearts and circumstances.
A longing for a kinsman redeemer grew within me as I read of Boaz, Ruth's redeemer. Tenderness, mercy, kindness, self-confident, protective, all the things we long for are all wrapped up in Boaz and in our ultimate Kinsman Redeemer, Jesus.

This book gets 5 stars from this girl.
Go Liz!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Girls Still Got It July 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I have a confession to make. I'm not a big fan of the Bad Girls of the Bible books by Liz Curtis Higgs. I hate to admit that. The books are so popular and everyone praises them, but I had to force myself to finish the 1st book and I never attempted any of the sequels. So when my former Bible Study group were choosing a new study, I tried talking everyone out of a study my Liz Curtis Higgs. They won. I quickly realized that I won too. I never laughed so hard, nor learned so much during a study, before or after. So when I saw this book was available to review, I requested a review copy from the publisher right away. And I loved it!

The back of the book says that after reading The Girls Still Got It, you will be able to say, "I totally geth the book of Ruth." Well, I just finished reading it, and I totally get the book of Ruth! Liz (she puts so much of herself into this book that you feel like you know her, so I'll call her Liz, thankyouverymuch) does encourage relating Ruth and Naomi to our personal lives, make no mistake that this is a study of the book of Ruth. Liz walks us through Ruth, literally line by line. We are given plenty of background, so it's easy to imagine this ancient world, the clothing, hairstyles, customs, etc.

I have another book that studies Ruth , and have done other studies on Ruth, and the difference in the books are huge. I found The Girls Still Got It to be superior because of the depth it goes into. Liz doesn'tskip around, taking the book line by line, you're getting the details and the background to see and understand the whole picture. Liz doesn't pick out the most important lines, each line holds importance. I missed the significance of verse 2:4 before. Not this time. Additional knowledge given about 1:18 or 3:15, adds important aspects to the story that I never realized before. And that's what I love about this study. I'm not just reading someone else's take on the same ol' story. I learned something more.

*I received this book from the publisher to review. This is my honest review of this lovely book.*
