Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-6 Benefits of yoga are identified through textual descriptions of exercises and vibrant color drawings of girls performing the poses and variations. Relaxation, breathing, and the use of yoga as a stress reliever for anxiety about one's body, family, school, and social situations is the clear focus. Facts about yoga and the language and different types are sprinkled throughout the book, while brightly colored boxes provide information on how to perform the poses in a sequential manner. Quotes, or girl talk, provide advice about life. The zany color combinations attract the eye to various sections of the pages, which sometimes seem too busy. Girls interested in yoga and in ways to relieve tensions should find the book lively and informative. Janice C. Hayes, Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro

I LOVE this book! The language is spot-on for girls--there's no "dumbing down" here, yet the core teachings of yoga aren't glossed over either. The package is tons of fun, with amazing, colourful illustrations of real girls and easy-to-follow instructions for each yoga pose. I highly recommend it--especially for girls who might want to begin a yoga practice but aren't sure they want to take a class with a "bunch of women."
If you're a mom with a preteen / teenage daughter, it's a great way to learn about yoga together.

I liked this better than most "adult" books on Yoga. Definitely work a look for adults new to Yoga as well as girls.

I am an elementary teacher and I bought this book for my students. It never stays on the shelf for long. It is well loved with many dog-eared pages.

This book is an excellent one for teens and tweens who are brand-new to yoga. It gives a nice overview, though very high-level, as to what yoga is all about and weaves in quotes from real girls who have discovered the wonderful benefits of yoga. If you're interested in a complete physical practice, with details on the poses and modifications, this book is not the one for you. But it does give several small sequences that you can incorporate into each day that don't take up too much of your time.

My nieces have taken an interest in yoga like their Auntie and I wanted to find them a book that is age appropriate. This books really offers everything I'd want in beginner book of yoga for a "tween" girls. I wish there was a bit more step by step in there regarding the postures, but the book also discusses self-confidence, being kind to ourselves and others and the other practices of a well rounded yoga practice.
