The Glencairn Scotch Whisky Glass

I have only been drinking scotch for about a year now, but I have yet to drink out of anything that comes close to enhancing the taste and smell of scotch like this glass has.

The the bottom half encourages evaporation through its surface area and contact with your hand while the narrow top focuses the smell. All this comes together to enhance the aroma and this most certainly enhances the drinking experience. With other glasses I feel that I have to get my nose way too close to smell anything.

A must buy and a wonderful addition to the cabinet.

I have always used glasses designed for other spirits or wines when enjoying the Single Malt Experience.

Enter the Glencairn - first word "WOW", second statement "OH MY"....

The design enhances the experience and takes it to the level that most Single Malt indulgers are trying & looking to find.

A fine single malt scotch deserves a fine glass in which to enjoy it. Previous to this purchase, I drank my scotch in a tumbler. I now have two of these; one for me and one for a friend. Perfect accompaniment to a good book and/or a pipe full of your favorite tobacco!

I ordered this whiskey tasting glass, thining that it came with the glass plus the whiskey beads. NO, I got this product in the mail and it was just the glass! I would have paid the $20.00 for two glasses but no I just got one thinking it included the rocks plus the glass for the price that I paid! IM MAD!

I love this glass. Perfect form and I have to chuckle at another reviewers comment that it is for tasting, not drinking. For me, if I fill this half way to the top, consume and do that one more time, the world is a warm mellow place that requires no further consumption. I've had a set of 4 glasses for over 3 years and a second one had a contact event from which it could not survive. Down to 2, so I ordered another 3 to keep the set intact, with a spare.

At the time this glass was purchased it was presented with a bag of Whiskey Stones. At first glance this was a no-brainer purchase thinking that the stones that were shown in the product photo came with the purchase. This is not the case. Shame on you Amazon.

I could not be more thrilled about this brilliant glass design. I first heard about it from some Scotch whisky blogs and mags and, being new to the 'Water of Life' experience, I thought it perfectly acceptable to drink from a decent tumbler which has proven to be a fairly adept spirit container for rum and bourbon in the past. This glass has COMPLETELY changed my enjoyment of the Scotch whisky genre.

From the focused throughput of the nose, to the channeled tasting path (and subsequent OMG on my taste-buds) this crystal wonder shines. The handling of the glass is superb, weighing ever so slightly (and delightfully I might add) as your grip may move to different positions around the base.

This is the ultimate Scotch whisky delivery device :)

Side note: This does appear to be the official Glencairn glass (i.e. I believe this is made of lead-free crystal) but I only play a metallurgist(??) on TV...

This glass is perfectly designed to bring out all of the best of a great whiskey, scotch, or bourbon. I find it also useful for high quality spirits you wish to drink neet. The bowl is shaped to help designate about one ounce of spirit (while permitting enough area to assist in the opening of the bouquet of the spirit). The narrow mouth concentrates the aromas for you full enjoyment (especially if you have pre-chilled the spirit you are drinking). The shape of the stem and bowl are wonderful to assist in the warming by your hands and the swirl of the spirit to bring out the brands best qualities on your palette.

Although whiskeys are clearly the forte of the Glencairn glass, it is in fact excellent for sipping all sorts of liquors. I've had great success with scotch and bourbon, vodkas, gins, tequilas, and even cognacs. The shape really does help to concentrate the aromas of the liquor while letting the alcohol bleed off, avoiding that nose-searing ethanol blast that a snifter can create while still capturing the smell.
As some other reviewers have noted, this is a small glass, more suited for nosing or tasting than for guzzling. If you're planning to have several drinks in an evening, be prepared to make several pours. Of course, the sorts of liquors you should be drinking in this glass really shouldn't be guzzled anyway... The volume that fits in the glass is perfect for a couple of On The Rocks Whiskey Stones - Set of 9, which I also recommend.
Despite its size, however, the glass feels very solid and sturdy in-hand; the base is heavy enough to keep the glass upright even when knocked gently, and the glass body is blown thick enough to withstand a bit of abuse.

Great whisky drinking glass. Allows for proper nosing and lets you get a good look at the color as well. The Glencairn is a top notch glass.
