1.0 out of 5 stars A predictable story with an agenda, December 3, 2011
This review is from: The God Conspiracy (Kindle Edition)
I had a couple of long drives and listened to this book. The story moves along at a decent pace and early on, it felt like it would be a good listen. The story is just compelling enough that I made it through, but in the end felt like there would have been a better use of my time.

I continuously got the sense that the author is on a mission to spread a Christian message, and actually believes that something like the silly story that played out is actually possible.

Good fiction usually requires a suspension of disbelief, and the reader (or listener) is rewarded for doing so. In this case, it just wasn't possible for me.

If you believe in big government conspiracies and don't mind being preached to, you might like it.

1.0 out of 5 stars This IS Christian "End Times" fiction., July 18, 2009

This review is from: The God Conspiracy (Kindle Edition)
It is not Science Fiction or a timely "thriller". If you are not a Christian you will be greatly distracted by all the references to that worldview. The story will not be plausible to you if you are not a Christian either.

5.0 out of 5 stars Non-Stop Action, July 2, 2009

This review is from: The God Conspiracy (Kindle Edition)
The God Conspiracy I read the kindle edition of this book. I have often heard it said of various reads, "This one grabs you and doesn't let go". Most of the time, upon reading, I found this not to be true but with this book once you start it is like salted peanuts, you just will not want to quit. For some folks out there this may be an introduction to an entirely new genre since there are very few books of this type around. My advice is...hold on to your hat!

More About the Author

Besides writing, Derek P. Gilbert co-hosts P.I.D. Radio with wife, Sharon K. Gilbert. He formerly hosted "The Drive", the #1 rated afternoon talk radio program in mid-Missouri (the stretch of the Show-Me State along Interstate 70 between Saint Louis and Kansas City).

He's a Christian, a husband and father, and an author. He's in his late 40s, prefers glasses to contacts, and sings barbershop, an a cappella style of distinctly American music, most recently with the quartet A Work in Progress in Columbia, MO.

In the 25 years since earning a degree in Economics, Derek has worked as a Top 40 radio disc jockey (he was once world famous in Peoria), a real estate salesman, the manager of a tuxedo shop, a PA announcer at high school hockey games, and a salesman of steel now in buildings, power plants, and offshore oil rigs all over the world.

Born in Chicago, just a long Ernie Banks homer from Wrigley Field, Derek's radio career took him from Peoria and Chicago in the Midwest, to Philadelphia out east, and then south to Little Rock before finally bringing him back to the Midwest -- first to Saint Louis, an area he loved for its values, cost of living, and most of all, toasted ravioli, and finally to the land of his ancestors, Indiana.

For more than twenty years, Derek sang the high tenor part in a series of barbershop quartets. His quartets performed regularly in the Saint Louis area, including a number of appearances on Saint Louis radio and TV.

Derek's interests include reading, teaching Christian apologetics, rooting for the Cubs, unraveling conspiracy theories, scratching Sam T. Dachshund, the family dog, and letting daughter Nicole beat him on the GameCube.

Despite being out of the public eye, now that he's hung up his headphones, bowties, and striped vest, Derek is enjoying life more than ever as husband and father to the two most beautiful, intelligent, and talented women on Earth.

Derek has always been fascinated by the way things work and how things got to be the way they are. It was his study of evidence for the authenticity of the New Testament documents that awakened him to the battle raging around us.

It is this battle that inspires his writing.
