Book Description

Set in New York City, The God Wars is a mind-bending novel that focuses on multiple characters at a crucial moment in our shared history: a vagabond journalist with a gift for prophecy; a mysterious woman discovering the bedrock of her reality — time — does not exist; a young bride who finds her true identity in a change of clothes; and a physics professor whose unifying “Theory of Everything” splinters his mind.

Sierra Philpin is the pen name of Patricia Sierra and John Philpin, who have co-authored other titles now available in the Kindle Store, as well as Kindle titles they wrote individually.

5.0 out of 5 stars Here is how "The God Wars" left me feeling: June 11, 2009
By Glibber
Format:Kindle Edition
I feel sad and hopeful at the same time.

I was first attracted to this book because most of my reading is related to religion. It was mentioned in the Kindle Forum with a subject line that had "religion" in it, which sold me. "The God Wars" wasn't what I expected. It was better. It doesn't knock or praise religion. It just points out what we do to each other in the name of religion. Because I'm a Humanist, that spoke to me on many levels. The characters and the excellent writing keep the book from being a political tract or a lecture. I agree with the reviewer who said the writing is excellent. I expect Sierra Philpin to hit the big time someday.

4.0 out of 5 stars an interesting, thought-provoking, and fun read June 29, 2009
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I bought this book because the title suggested that it is about various religions and their conflicting views about who is right, but the book isn't about that. The product description says it's about 9/11, and it isn't about that either. Actually, the book is about the concept of time and whether or not it actually exists. But it's also about politics. And relationships, and love. And it's also about those moments we all have where we stop to ask ourselves if we imagined what just happened or if we are going crazy.

The story follows 5 characters whose lives intertwine. The book shifts from character to character as each describes events from their own viewpoint. At the beginning it was a little hard to keep in mind who was speaking, but as the book progressed, each character became a distinctive personality with thought provoking things to say. I am thankful that Kindle has highlight and note-taking capability because I used it a lot in this book. I look forward to going back and re-reading some of the passages.

4.0 out of 5 stars Honest Review June 11, 2009
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have to say right up front that I did not enjoy this book. The first quarter was fine, but then, I started to wonder, "When is something going to happen?" by the end of the 3rd quarter of it, I realized that not much was going to happen; it just wasn't that kind of book. Don't get me wrong, it did have some 'events', but actual forwarding of a story line was only about 10% of the book. I searched, but could find no real 'plot'.

So, why 4 stars? Well, just because it wasn't 'my kind of book' does not mean that it deserves a poor rating. So, I am reviewing it based on what it tried to accomplish and how well it accomplished it.

It was a terrific character study. All characters were fleshed out well and completely believable.

One thing I hate in a book is 'over describing'. This book had none of that. It did describe views and appearances, but did it well & succinctly.

Because I did enjoy reading the first part of the book, I can objectively say that it was extremely well written. The imagery was great and the dialogue flowed well.
