Product Description

Sweet Apple, the band of dispersed rockers from groups you've heard before--Dinosaur Jr., Cobra Verde and Witch--is back! ''The Golden Age Of Glitter'' is a 10-song power-pop masterpiece featuring J Mascis, Tim Parnin, John Petkovic and Dave Sweetapple that travels a wide swathe of musical styles; almost as wide as the geography represented by the band. ''The Golden Age Of Glitter'' was recorded from California to Massachusetts, with Cleveland in the middle. Along the way, Screaming Trees/Queens Of The Stone Age's Mark Lanegan and Guided By Voices' Robert Pollard showed up to do some killer guest duets! And, yes, Sweet Apple cashed in their frequent flyer miles for a trip full of sunny, dark, moody and heavy sounds the kind we've heard these guys do in other bands, but never before like this!!

Most Helpful Customer Reviews

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful By Charlie Quaker on April 25, 2014
Format: Audio CD
The 2nd album from this indie star-studded U.S. band is an unpretentious pop/rock gem. Sweet
Apple plays melody-driven power-chord stadium rock with pop-glitter choruses, undeniably
massive hooks and memorable riffs. This is simply exceptional power pop with extra muscle, a
70s-influenced psych/garage twist, some tasteful & flashy guitar runs, and tunes that will be
forever lodged in your humming center. These are the kind of simple powerhouse pop rockers
that, in a perfect world, would be flooding the airwaves, blasting out of every car window on the
highway. Every single song on here is begging to be a hit single. The band includes members
from Dinosaur Jr., Cobra Verde & Witch + guest appearances from Mark Lanegan (Screaming
Trees/Queens of the Stone Age), Robert Pollard (Guided By Voices/Boston Spaceships) and
Rachel Haden (that dog, The Rentals). The album recalls a bunch of great bands: Cheap Trick,
Free Energy, Redd Kross, the Kinks, Thin Lizzy, Brownsville Station, Black Mountain, the Knack,
Muck and the Mires, Nada Surf, Squeeze, the Who, Dead Meadow, etc. “The Golden Age of
Glitter” is one of those rare albums that stands out because both the songs and the musicians
are so good, and clearly playing because they want to. It’s an absolutely brilliant moment of rock
‘n’ roll power pop. Highly Recommended.
