Wow this album is solid country gold! This is what I hear when I think of country music. It has it all, broken hearts, swinging doors, neon signs and Cadillacs. The album kicks of with "Town Clown", a typical country weeper that seems to nod to the Hag's 60's sound. The pedal steel weeps, and the telecaster screams as Kelsey tells the story of being turned into a fool by a sweetheart. "Pride", wrestles with traditional country themes, but has more of an Americana sound. It almost sounds like something Neko Case would play. "Black Limousine", is another great mid tempo track. It preaches of the glory and pain that a Saturday night holds. I think my favorite track is "High In Heels", in this track the Neko Case influence is strong, and the lyrics almost sound like something that would come from the Drive By Truckers. I won't breakdown the rest of the album, because you need to check it out. The mix of Classic Country, and Alt Country make one of the stand out country albums of the year, and with Sturgill Simpson, and Billy Joe Shaver we have seen some killer albums. Check this album out!
