alternative story of Jesus
on March 24, 2012
This is an amazing book. It can be considered as one of many texts circulating in the early Christian communities. It shares stories with other early writing as that Jesus made clay birds and animated them, but it also sees him as a man--not God, or the son of God--and it says that he did not die on the cross. God took him into heaven and Judas, who suddenly began to resemble Jesus, was the one who was crucified. The accounts of the Gospel of Barnabas are similar to those of the Koran--Jesus was a prophet, who proclaimed the worship of one God. The reader will have to make his/her judgments as to the value of this gospel. It would be heretical to an evangelical/fundamentalist reader, yet it may be enlightening to a liberal religious perspective. It shows that Jesus can make sense without death and the cross. I might also suggest JESUS, PROPHET OF ISLAM by Muhammad'Ata ur-Rahim and Ahmad Thomson, THE TRUE MESSAGE OF JESUS CHRIST by A.A.B. Philips, WAS JESUS CRUCIFED? by Ahmed Deedat, and THE MANY SHADES OF SHIRK by Fadlur Rahman Kalim Kashmiri.
