Book Description

The Gospel of the Phoenix tells the story of Jesus’ life, in biblical style, as never before. Fans of Kahlil Gibran and students of history alike will enjoy this the story of a Jewish teacher trained in Egyptian healing and mysticism who set about spreading a gospel of humility, servanthood and renewal. His mission? To reveal the hidden kingdom of heaven that is both within and all around us. His method? Retracing the footsteps of his heavenly father, the Egyptian god Osiris, and honoring his divine mother while immersing his followers in the way of forgiveness, humility and wisdom.

The themes in this work will be familiar to Christians and non-Christians alike, but are presented from a perspective that readers from all backgrounds will find fresh and provocative. The intent mirrors that of the author of Luke: to create what he described as an orderly account based on numerous sources. A similar task has been taken up by numerous authors over the centuries, ranging from the Tatian, who produced a second-century harmony of the gospels known as the Diatesseron, to Thomas Jefferson, who created the so-called Jefferson Bible.

The Gospel of the Phoenix follows in this tradition, and is written to both inspire and challenge the reader. It acknowledges the profound influence of ancient mystery religions on Jesus’ life and mission and emphasizes his role as a teacher, sage and healer. It also sheds light on several elements of what has come to be a familiar story. Who betrayed him? Was he married? Which of his companions did he trust with his most valued secrets, and whose motives did he doubt? The Gospel of the Phoenix provides surprising and sometimes challenging answers to these and other questions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling Read August 7, 2012
Format:Paperback
I read this book in about 5 hours (breaking only to provide my family with food and to be social). It was like a magnet that pulled me on and on, confirming a lot of what I already believed to be true. A book I will re-read over and over again. Thoroughly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Experience of The Gospel of the Phoenix September 7, 2012

Format:Kindle Edition
The Experience of The Gospel of the Phoenix
Intriguing, Educational, Interesting, Thought-Provoking and Moving are all words that come to mind when I think about this book.
Stifyn Emrys., has done his research and found a new aspect of an age old question, "Where did Jesus Christ Journey?" What he has written will bring you a new perspective on this age old question and more. I found myself, emotionally charged, and found things that made sense in ways they never had. This well written and intriguing volume brings much to the discussion of the Life of Christ.
The Life and Times of Christ has been written about many times but none have brought me to this viewpoint. This is a book I will be keeping in my library to refer to,. I find it well written, easy to read, and more. My 14 Year Old Son Recently told me he wants to read the Bible, so he can decide for himself it's meaning. I feel this would be an excellent book to give him to go along with this educational adventure!
This book is appropriate for adults and children, and will be one I will enjoy going back to again and again.
Thank You Stifyn Emrys, for this journey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book by Stifyn Emrys September 21, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I purchased this book because it got so many positive reviews on a Facebook group I belong to, Pagan Bookshelf. What can I say....this book is excellent. The first thing I thought of is that it reads like a book out of the bible.....a pagan bible if there were one. Just reading the preface will have you hooked. And if you read the dedication at the beginning of the book, you'll understand the title. At least I did. All I can say is.....you have to read this book. It is thought provoking, uplifting, very intriguing and profound. This is a book I will read again and again....

4.0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking book August 28, 2012
By Gordon
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book examines the life of Jesus from multiple sources. Some of the verses will be familiar to Christians who have read the bible. Other verses come from other sources. The preface to the book is very thought provoking and discusses the motivations of the various authors who wrote about the life of Jesus. More than one source says that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married. Another source (probably not accurate)states that Jesus traveled to India and became familiar with Buhda's teachings. The book describes the love and wisdom of Jesus, which is especially evident in the later versus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Behind the greatest story ever told is a great man August 4, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Stifyn Emrys takes the reader back to the beginning of time, or at least the start of the modern calendar, walking alongside one of the most influential and controversial characters of written history. "The Gospel of the Phoenix" is crafted in the writing style of the other Christian gospels, making it appear as if it should reside alongside the books of Mark, Matthew, Luke and John. But Phoenix is different. It offers context along with wisdom, sharing other truths of the time of Jesus that add insight to the parables and stories made famous by the young rabbi. Emrys maintains all of Jesus' teachings, down to the letter. But he adds more, explaining the practices of other religions and teachings of the region that Jesus incorporated to what was then an extremely controversial outlook of the Lord Our God. Now, we quote scripture as fact. Back then, however, Jesus was a very mellow, very peace loving guy who abhorred corruption, violence against anybody, especially women, and wanted people to look forward to the good of the spirit. Somehow modern religion lost a lot of the basic context of what Jesus intended. Nowhere, for instance, did he tell King Richard to slaughter innocents in the Holy Land in his name. Nor did he tell his followers to condemn others based on minor difference. Emrys' portrayal retains the power and awe of the legend. He just gives it a little humanity.
