Book Description

An inspiration for the creation of houses of prayer around the world, The Grace Outpouring is a captivating account of spiritual renewal on a Welsh hillside.
When Roy Godwin turned his back on a lucrative consulting job to lead the quiet retreat center Ffald-y-Brenin in West Wales, he wasn’t sure what was next. Then God showed up.
In the years since the Godwins welcomed their first surprise guests to Ffald-y-Brenin, God has drawn thousands of seekers to this converted hill-farm with a tangible presence of healing and power.
Along with its accompanying study guide, The Grace Outpouring offers fascinating stories of God’s work on a remote hillside as well as inspiring insight into how God can work in readers’ own communities.

I highly recommend this book, it had one of the biggest impacts on me of books I've read in the last few years.

For one, it helped me see the power and authority of speaking blessing to others. And how I sometimes withhold blessing others if I think their behavior doesn't warrant it - and how that is being judgmental. Scripture says bless your enemies (Rom 12:14) and Paul said he when he is cursed he blesses (1 Cor 4:12). How many are really purposeful about doing that today? And yet, that is being like God our Father.

The book tells the amazing, true story of the great work God is doing through a house of prayer/retreat center in Wales. I'm looking forward to being there to visit it in two weeks! Wales has a great history of spiritual revivals - a land with some spiritual ground well plowed by prayer. Also where my ancestors are from - I'm looking forward to asking the Lord to receive a spiritual inheritance while there.

The book is easy to read, flows well. And I especially liked the humble spirit with which the story is told. The emphasis is on what God has done through willing people, not on what any individual has accomplished.

There are multiple examples that you can pick up an incorporate into your own life - from how to bless others to letting someone interact directly with God rather than always being the center of the discussion yourself.

The book is about local houses of prayer which are corporate places open to all. Although not specifically mentioned in the book, I believe that discussion also has things that can be used in your own home to move it towards becoming a "local home of prayer" where there is a rhythm of prayer so that it is a place of stronger Presence and spiritual influence in the neighborhood.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for Christians October 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What I love about this book is that it is full of stories bearing witness to the power and grace of God poured into a community. As the authors keep emphasising, the power is not in prayer or people ministering, but in God himself. Not only is the content just mind boggling, this book is not "put down able", as it works from the present back into the history of the place. A sceptical reader can quickly put any reservations aside, as the phenomena of God's blessings are put into the context of Scripture. It is written with such humility, honesty and wit, that it almost feels like you are sitting in the described kitchen having tea and scones at the place yourself.
A refreshing read and approach to a biblical Christianity that puts God in his rightful place. Full of practical advice and encouragement to follow a lifestyle of blessing others..

This book is hard to put down. An honest account by someone who is as surprised as anyone as to what happens when God moves and the Holy Spirit convicts and blesses the folk who are mysteriously drawn up the drive to this prayer and conference centre in West Wales.

I know that some dismiss books that are written ‘with…’. These are books where a person has a story to tell but does not have the time (and usually skill) to tell it well in book form. Whenever I have hear automatic dismissal I think of the work that John and Elizabeth Sherrill did in bring the stories of Brother Andrew, Corrie Ten Boom, David Wilkerson and many others where their names did not clearly appear in the ‘with…’ section.

I do want to say clearly, that while I am supportive of people like the Sherrills and Dave Roberts in this book, I think these cowriters need to always be acknowledged and Christian publishers in particular need to stop the practice of hidden ghost writers.

In the Grace Outpouring, Roy Godwin tells the story of how God has used him and the Ffald-y-Brenin retreat center in Wales to bless others and bring God’s power to the people that visit the retreat center, the community around the retreat center, and even people that have never been there.

Testimony stories like this are an important part of Christian literature. Sometimes I can forget how important a part they are. These types of books are usually not great literary works, but instead are simple narratives of Gods work in normal people’s lives.

In Roy Godwin’s example, God choose a broken business man/evangelist and his wife to lead a retreat center into becoming a ‘house of prayer.’ Early in the book he focuses on how they prayed blessings over individuals and God directly worked in their lives to bring about salvation, spiritual and emotional healing (and later in the book physical healing.
