Comment: This hardcover, Volume One, published by Motor Racing Publications in 1954, has a small 1/2-inch tear on fore-edge of back cover with a tiny tear to fore-edge of last few pages, foxing and discoloring to endpapers, binding starting to weaken in a couple places, still mostly tight, previous owner's name, in partial DJ.

Format: Hardcover
The Grand Prix Car Volumes I and II together present an invaluable guide to the development of racing cars and, indeed, automotive technology from the dawn of the automobile to 1956. A third volume by LJK Setright covered the 12 years to 1966. Pomeroy achieves the impossible in his two volumes, combining intricate detail about the construction of the GP cars with the regulatory environment and industry climate to create an authoritative and engaging explanation of the evolution of the GP car. By using standard formulae for expressing engine performance and using timing data from the same race track, Pomeroy is able to make comparisons between cars built under different rules to highlight where advances were made. He also closely documents the development of chassis and suspension systems. All of this is done in an easy-to-read style which makes even the most complex mechanical arrangements easy to understand. Both books contain a wealth of cutaway drawings and photographs, with many fold-out double-page plates. These are must-have texts in any automotive library.
