Oh heaven…

We've all heard of Cornish Pasties, but had you heard of Aussie Pies? Grandma hadn't. Robert Macklin's The Great Australian Pie: a history and culinary adventure is an amusing and entertaining look at the history of pie and an historic Australian National Dish. You'll learn about Little Jack Horner's plum, the Flying Pieman and just who those blackbirds were baked for.

If you happen to be in Australia or visiting soon, you'll also find some of the best pie sources in the country and a link to a great app to help you find a pie whenever the mood might strike.

Stumbled across this small book in the cooking section of Kindle books for rent. Lucky for me! Very readable and informative. Not a cookbook but a very pleasant discourse on a tasty subject. Wish I had one to eat right now!

A great history of the Australian Pie. Author takes you back to the beginning of the pie and work the way to the present time. The only I am bumped is no recipes for the pies or at least some lead for the recipes. I went to school in Australia for 3 years and always fascinated how the meat and gravy is contained in the pastry dough unlike the American Pot pie that crumbles in your hand. Great book to ready on the subject.
