Format:Audio CD
This new CD release has 14 gospel songs and is titled 'The Greatest : Gospel Songs'. It's one of the three CDs released today here on Amazon from the late country/gospel singer Johnny Cash. Other two CDs also released today are 'Greatest Duets' & 'The Greatest : The Number Ones'. The earlier CD release (2 Discs) on 04/03/2012 titled 'Bootleg Vol. 4 : The Soul Of Truth' has 51 wonderful gospel songs by Johnny Cash (often with his wife June Carter Cash or The Carter Family) : this has on overall better songs than this release and it also includes the 4 songs "I Was There When It Happened", "Belshazzar", "That's Enough", "Far Side Bank Of Jordan"/"Waiting On The Far Side Bank Of Jordan" that are in this new CD. This may be an unfair comparison due to the disparity of the number of songs in these CDs in question. Stand-outs/gems/solid tracks from this new CD release include "(There'll Be) Peace In The Valley (For Me)" with The Carter Family, "Far Side Bank Of Jordan" with June Carter Cash & "Daddy Sang Bass" : great baritone vocals by Johnny Cash. Great songs include "I Was There When It Happenned" (great music & melody), "The Great Speckle Bird" (sounding like Jim Reeves), "Suppertime", "The Old Account", "He Turned Water Into Wine", "Were You There (When They Crucified My Lord", "Troublesome Waters", "Amen" (classic that most church members have sang/heard) & "The Masterpiece" (Johnny Cash gives some 'rappy vocals'). Okay tracks include "Belshazzar" & "That's Enough".
On overall, Johnny Cash has 14 gospel songs in this new CD release that his ardent fans would like to have in their collection (but the 'Bootleg Vol. 4 : The Soul Of The Truth' would be something better to have a listen to if you don't already have a copy). Great gospel singing by Johnny Cash nevertheless.
