I just wanted to say how pleased I am with this acquisition.

As you probably know the London Philharmonic is one of the world's outstanding orchestras, and the collection is pretty much every piece you would expect to be included, and then some. It reminded me of the proms concert I went to years ago, it has that same high energy music that really rouses and gets the crowd going.

You probably remember O Fortuna from Orff, from the Omen movies, and all the majors are are covered Bach, Beethoven even Handel's Messiah.

Interspersed with this are pieces like the Gymnopedies, Peer Gynt, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik from Mozart, and one of my new favorites, the impeccably beautiful movement of Barcarolle from Tales of Hoffman, so a good variety of music to please every palate, from slow to meditative, to the virtuoso speed of Rondo Alla Turca.

Thank you Amazon for making this available at such an irresistible price. Hope this was helpful.

This digital album was recorded in September 2009 by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, with David Parry as the conductor, at three separate locations, namely, the Royal Festival Hall, the Abbey Road Studios, and the Henry Wood Hall in London, England. The Choral music is performed by the London Chorus and the London Philharmonic Choir. This album is produced for the Swedish company, X5 Music Group, solely for digital release at Amazon, iTunes, and other digital music providers. It includes fifty of the best known classical compositions by Bach, Handel, Mozart, and other major composers, about 4 hours worth of music, for a very reasonable price. Lovers of choral music will appreciate Carmina Burana- O Fortuna by Carl Orff, Nabucco-Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves by Verdi, and "Ode to Joy" by Beethoven. Piano music lovers will like the "Moonlight Sonata" and "Fur Elise" by Beethoven, performed by the award winning Irish pianist, Finghin Collins.

The London Philharmonic Orchestra was first established in 1932 by Sir Thomas Beecham. It is one of the major orchestras in the U.K., based in the Royal Festival Hall in London, England. It is also the main resident orchestra of the Glyndebourne Festival Opera at Glyndebourne, East Sussex, England. In addition, it regularly performs concerts at the Congress Theatre, Eastbourne and Brighton Dome in Brighton, England, which is most famous for its pipe organ.

For an interesting video on the making of the album, see my comment below.

I'm not really a classical music buff, but I wanted kind of a "Classical Music for Dummies" compilation...and this is it! Virtually all of the pieces are instantly recognizable, as they should be in this type of compilation. The London Philharmonic has done a wonderful job presenting this collection, and I highly recommend it for casual listeners who are looking for one good classical music compilation. With the quality and variety of songs, it is worth much more than $5.00.

The music itself is fantastic. The only drawback is that generally none of the original composers are actually credited for the individual pieces. This is regrettable both since, if you're a musical novice like me, you may not always be aware of who you're listening to and enjoying (in the sense of the original source) and because it can't be used as a potential means of moving from these pieces to pursuing more deeply individual composers and their work. But the music itself, including the performance, is wonderful.
