This is a well-written short story that portrays Christopher Columbus in a refreshingly positive way. It moves quickly, and you'll definitely get your dollar's worth.

3.0 out of 5 stars Was Columbus a Secret Jew? February 21, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
History hints, the Church denies, and his behavior puzzles the reader. Historians have long wondered about why his crew harbored convicts, heretics, and suspected Jews. THE GREEN LINE does not solve the mystery but deepens it through the eyes of a young crew member fleeing the Inquisition.

I didn't realize it would just be a short story. Just when you start to think it will be interesting to follow this story, it ends.

5.0 out of 5 stars great story January 27, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This excellent short story by Elizabeth Zelvin is well worth the read. The Green Cross is a mystery, but the historical setting is what caught my attention. Columbus sets out on his search for the Indies during the Spanish Inquisition. A young Jewish sailor struggles to both preserve his faith and escape detection. Tidbits of fact intertwine with Zelvin's fictionalized story to make for great entertainment.

Enjoyed the preface to the Voyage of Strangers. Liked reading about Diego and Araceli in more detail. The Green Cross should have been a free purchase though.
