I looked for this book on because, of all the many library books I have checked out to research my new, small, greenhouse business, this was the one so densely packed with useful information that I feel I should own it. If there are better books out there for a new grower like me, I wish I knew what they were! As I am planning to be certified organic, I appreciated that this book, although conventional in it's treatment of chemical use, also expressed the concerns for human safety and for the environment that all growers who do use chemicals should be aware of. The details about individual plants, container sizes, and sample planting to marketing dates are invaluable. I was beginning to think they were industry secrets since no other book provided them. I also appreciated the clear and concise writing.

The Greenhouse And Nursery Handbook: A Complete Guide To Growing And Selling Ornamental Plants offers the dedicated gardener and the professional horticulturist up-to-date and comprehensive information on virtually every aspect of the greenhouse and nursery industry. This special 21st Century edition is a seminal, invaluable, reference created by one of the foremost experts in the field of ornamental horticulture. Dr. Jozwik is a horticultural research scientist and owner of a successful commercial greenhouse and nursery who has drown extensively upon his more than thirty years of professional experience to create a truly "user friendly" reference of complete instructions on growing hundreds of ornamental plant varieties, selling ornamental plants at a profit, planning greenhouse and nursery facilities, organizing growing operations, suggestions for major plant requires such as soil and nutrients, practical and theoretical aspects of pest and disease control, even management guidelines for commercial horticultural production and marketing that is as informative as it is dependable. The Greenhouse And Nursery Handbook is a highly recommended, single volume course in greenhouse development, operation, and management that covers from beginning to end.

I have the 21st century edition of Greenhouse & Nursey Handbook and wouldn't be without it. Although I am retired and am working out of a home greenhouse, I can remember years of working in commercial greenhouses where I would have killed for the info contained in this book. Because of my background in commercial greenhouses, I thought I knew it all.......little did I know. The book is 'user friendly' which is a plus for me and I have used it when giving classes for the Idaho Master Gardening program. I ALWAYS take it to class with me, and recommend it to the students. Not everyone will be able to justify the cost of the book, but if at all possible, suck up to a friend that owns a copy.

More About the Author

My latest book Angst and Evolution: The Struggle for Human Potential

My biggest incentive for writing "Angst and Evolution" was to organize and clarify my personal beliefs. In order to accomplish this goal I had to summarize my own notes generated over many years and investigate other sources. When this lengthy process was finished, I enlisted John Gist to help in transforming the outline of basic results into a contemporary manuscript and to provide criticism of questionable points. The whole process between John and I took over 5 years and contained information that I suspected might be useful for other people who were privately asking the same questions. Thus the book was born!

My Biography

Francis Jozwik received a Ph.D. in Plant Science and began his career lecturing in plant physiology with the University of Wisconsin System. He was later appointed Arid Lands Research Scientist with The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization of Australia. In addition to his scientific and academic background, Dr. Jozwik has worked and published several books in the field of commercial horticulture. Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World have repeatedly honored Dr. Jozwik for his professional accomplishments. The National Science Foundation has supported some of his basic research in the field of biosystematics. Angst and Evolution represents a further extension of Dr. Jozwik's lifelong interest in evolutionary biology.
