Product Description

To get those particles out of your sponge or mitt, you need the Grit Guard Insert. The raised radial surface fits in the bottom of any 5 gallon bucket and extracts grit from your wash mitt or sponge when you drag it across the Grit Guard. The dirt settles at the bottom of the bucket so your wash water stays clean. The Grit Guard has a radial grid surface that scrapes dirt out of your mitt or sponge. Four quadrants at the base of the Grit Guard calm the wash water and hold the grid above the bottom of the bucket. Dirt falls to the bottom and stays there. You'll be amazed at how much dirt accumulates in the bottom of your wash bucket!

Customer Reviews

Fits a standard 5 gallon bucket.
Scott McAfoos
You put these in your car wash bucket and the dirt from whatever you use to wash your car falls down below the "Grit Guard" to the bottom of the bucket.

Highly recommended for anyone that washes their car.

THIS IS A GREAT PRODUCT !! PLEASE don't pay any attention to the people that complained that it wouldn't fit their buckets. FOR THE RECORD: I have Homer Buckets from Home Depot and buckets from Lowes Hardware. These grit Guards fit just fine in either, The go all the way to the bottom and do the job they're supposed to do (trap dirt and grit in the bottom of your bucket so it isn't reintroduced to your paint). There are people that just like to complain and there are those who are so baffled by anything mechanical that opening a jar of peanut butter is a challenge for them. (I appreciate a bad review - it saves me time and trouble. BUT writing a snarky review because you're so stupid that you bought the wrong bucket is something else again. THESE GRIT GUARDS FIT THE ORANGE HOMER BUCKETS FROM HOME DEPOT. You will not have a problem with them.

This item is great for washing a car. Some people use two Grit Guards but I use only one. If you are using one, and you are using thr two bucket method then place the Grit Guard in the rinse bucket. This is where all the dirt will accumulate. After washing a section, if you see dirt buildup on the mitt, that will not rinse off, rub the mitt against the Grit Guard and all the dirt will fall right out. Great product!

I have two of these and use the "two bucket method" when washing my car. Basically one 5gal bucket (with grit guard) from home depot is filled with soapy water and the other 5gal bucket (with grit guard) is filled with clean water. Soap up the sponge in bucket #1, wash a panel on the car, clean the sponge in bucket #2, repeat. This keeps the large pieces of dirt at the bottom of the bucket.

This wont work with odd shaped buckets like rubbermaid ones, however fthey fit perfectly in the standard 5gal buckets you can buy at any hardware store.

I vacillated about buying this product. I really wondered whether it was worth the extra $10. After the first use there was no doubt. If you are cleaning your own car, you need to be using the 2 bucket system and you need this in the 'dirt' bucket. Simple as that. If you don't, it is much harder to get dirt off the mitt (or rag, although I highly recommend a good mitt) and that leads to scratches in your paint. If you don't care about scratches, why are you bothering to wash your own car? Bring it to the local drive-through for $8.

The grit guard worked really well when washing my car. It keeps dirt and debris in the bottom of the bucket and keeps the wash mitt clean. Highly recommended for anyone that washes their car.

Does exactly what it's supposed to and fit fine in a 5gal bucket from the local hardware store.

It doesn't go all the way to the bottom of the bucket but wedges itself in about 1/3 of the way down, sitting a few inches from the bottom. This doesn't seem to affect function at all. Just switched to a two bucket wash method for my cars with the grit guard in the bottom of my rinse bucket. On my show car I noticed much less swirling after a wash. Will probably last me a lifetime.

Make sure to have a 12 inch 5 gallon bucket. Just about any hardware store or Walmart will have good buckets for a dollar or two. Use 2-4 of them depending if you have a separate shampoo for your rims. These grit guards are amazing at getting all the lose dirt off your sponges and mitts or brushes. You'll be impressed by how much dirt gets stuck under the bottom of this thing after your wash. The main purpose is to prevent that dirt from going back on to the car which causes swirls.

These things are just OK. I bought two of them specifically to wash my car using the two bucket method. They supposedly prevent dirt that has settled at the bottom of the bucket from being brought back up into the column of water. However, what i found is they just spin around a bunch when you are trying to rub your wash mitts against them. They need to come with a spacer to wedge them into the bucket so they don't spin.
