5.0 out of 5 stars Love it
I'll be honest, I origionally bought an expensive washbucket "system" from another manufacturer which I returned promptly for a variety of reasons. Spending more doesn't always get you more. Lesson learned! This simple little guard makes a standard 5 gallon bucket the perfect wash pail. The benefits while washing are obvious. But I found another bonus after I used...

3.0 out of 5 stars Works as intended but no free shipping makes it overpriced
Washing your car is one of those love hate chores. You love to have that detailed look and having acids and pollutants off your paint and rubber, but after your teen years, killing an hour doing the chore is no longer a thrill. If you care enough to do the job yourself and not delegate it to the detailing's fast food counterpart, the gas station car wash, then you want...

But I found another bonus after I used it. When the washing is done and you throw all your stuff in the bucket to store it, the guard keeps the wash mits up off the bottom allowing some air circulation. The mits dry faster and don't get musty.

Also, this model has the two finger holes in the middle, so you can lift the thing out without having to dump the entire contents of the bucket. Some models don't have this, so it's worth mentioning. It's the little things!

Washing your car is one of those love hate chores. You love to have that detailed look and having acids and pollutants off your paint and rubber, but after your teen years, killing an hour doing the chore is no longer a thrill. If you care enough to do the job yourself and not delegate it to the detailing's fast food counterpart, the gas station car wash, then you want the right tools at your disposal. This product is just a plastic grate that allows the dirt removed via your sponge/rag to settle to the bottom of your soapy water bucket to lessen the chance that any tiny abrasive particles will be reintroduced and scratch your paint. It's ridiculously simple but almost a must have. At $8 for this little chunk of plastic, it's a necessary evil. But needing to spend almost that same amount for shipping makes that little plastic grate stupidly overpriced. I'm Amazon's biggest fan and supporter; but if you spot this at a Pep Boys or other supplier, this is one time it's best to buy it there. It's a great item to have, really a necessity. But as long as it requires separate shipping so relatively high, it might be better bought somewhere else.

I would recommend this product to anyone that is looking to maintain their automotive finish to the fullest extent. I was actually quite surprised when it arrived at how sturdy this feels. I was worried about this when I initially placed my order as there are other imposter brands on the market with made with far less quality. I would have rated this 5 stars if the material was actually higher in height. It most likely is sufficient unless you're washing a heavily soiled car. I probably will order another one as another reviewer said just as an overall insurance policy and also just to be sure I always have on on hand.

The Grit Guard insert does what it needs to in its bucket home. And in this case, your Home Depot orange bucket is where I have the grit guard in. It's not designed to go all the way to the bottom of the bucket (the feet stop about an inch from hitting bottom) and that's fine. You'd be hard pressed trying to remove it sitting too snugly at the bottom. So go ahead, kick the bucket and get one. It's time for cleaner mitts.
