Book Description

EVERYONE REMEMBERS THEIR FIRST LOVE...
BUT SOMETIMES IT'S THE SECOND LOVE THAT LASTS

"Evocative and heartfelt, The Guestbook is the profound story of one woman's journey toward hope, renewal and a second chance at love on a lush Pacific Northwest island. Curl up with your favorite cup of cocoa and enjoy."
~Anjali Banerjee - author of Imaginary Men and Haunting Jasmine said about this women's fiction romance

This book weaves together the heart of Nicholas Sparks, the romance of Nora Roberts, and the charm of Debbie Macomber.

Fleeing her picture-perfect marriage among the privileged set of Brentwood and the wreckage of a failed marriage, Lily Parkins decides to move to the only place that still holds happy memories, her grandmother’s old farmhouse. The lush and majestic setting of the Pacific Northwest calls to her and offers a place of refuge and perhaps renewal. Her grandmother has passed away, leaving the Madrona Island Bed & Breakfast Inn to Lily.

Left with only an old guestbook as her guide–a curious book full of letters, recipes, and glimpses into her family history–Lily is determined to embrace her newfound independence and recreate herself, one page at a time. With the help of the quirky island residents she has befriended, she slowly finds the strength to seek out happiness on her own terms. But as soon as she has sworn off men and is standing on her own two feet, Lily meets Ian, the alluring artist who lives next door, and her new life is suddenly thrown off course. The last thing she wants to do right now is to open her heart to another man.

Ultimately, Lily must decide if it’s worth giving up her soul for security or risking everything to follow her heart in this romantic love story.

The Guestbook is the first book in the Madrona Island Trilogy. www.madronaislandbandb.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect summer read!!!! July 31, 2012
Format:Paperback
I honestly did not know what to expect with this book, but what an exciting surprise!
The Guestbook by Andrea Hurst is jam packed with hidden treasures along with a compelling story.
The descriptions of the flowers, the mountains, the sky, the animals, and the FOOD were poetic and made me feel like I could actually smell and taste the foods, or feel the nature around me.
I personally love Lilly's story of recovery after a bad marriage.
She is strong, creative, and an inspiration to all women who have to restart their lives.
I am recommending it to all of my friends.
Hopefully this will become a series because I miss the island and the brownies already!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet delight to the senses August 24, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a story that captured every sense engaging the reader from the first page. With savory recipes that made my mouth water, elegant descriptions of the Pacific Northwest which made me remember why I love living there, and a story that filled the soul, I loved this book.
But the five senses were not the only things stimulated by this novel. The author, Andrea Hurst, also captivated me with the sweet, yet realistic characters and their heart-felt, emotional journeys. For me it is the characters and their relationships, their life-lessons, which make or break the story, and this novel definitely made it!
I highly recommend this book to those who love a good romance.

The Guestbook
By
Andrea Hurst

My "in a nutshell" summary...

Lily discovers that she has a cheating husband. She escapes to her grandmother's bed and breakfast on Madrona Island...to heal and regroup.

My thoughts after reading this book...

This book has everything that a book like this should have. A cheating dastardly evil insensitive husband...did I say controlling...Brad is very controlling. In fact his role as the bad guy is awesome...he is the guy you love to hate. When Lily...his trophy wife...realizes that he is cheating...she leaves her perfect L.A. Life and heads to the inn she inherited from her grandmother. The inn is lovely, the neighbors are quirky, and other than being constantly harassed and threatened by Brad...she is trying to rebuild her life. Of course on the ferry to the inn she sees a drop dead gorgeous stranger who turns out to be her neighbor. He is raising a young son on his own and they are attracted to each other from the start. But in denial...lol!

In the mean time...quirky neighbors visit, Lily learns how to start a fire, Brad keeps threatening her and cutting off her access to money and Lily has to use her culinary skills to find a way to make a living! All the while she is reading her grandmother's guest book and searching for her grandmother's famous brownie recipe!

What I loved about this book...

Hmmm...that's easy! I loved almost everything...the sexy bits were tasteful, the food was mouth watering, and I truly wanted to be there. There was enough drama to keep me reading at a fast pace...I did not want to put this book down.

Final thoughts...

I found this to be a lovely book with interesting characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enchanting Love Story September 14, 2012
Format:Paperback
If you've wondered whether anyone writes happy-ever-after endings anymore and manages to pull it off in an entertaining, page-turning way, then wonder no more. The Guestbook, by Andrea Hurst is the first book of a trilogy which takes place on an island in the Pacific Northwest, and it grabbed me from the moment I entered the story. As love-story plots go, there really aren't any new, but Hurst imbues hers with so much charm and truly delightful characters, that I found myself wanting to stay at the B&B so I could spend time with these genuinely likable people. Of course, the cookies and breakfast food recipes and the illusive magical brownies added one more level of sensuous pleasure, titillating my reader's palette imagination, while the budding relationships and community spirit filled me with a feel-good factor from the very first chapter, despite the protagonist's unhappy marriage situation. For a light read, this had a surprisingly impressive pull, making me stay up later than I planned, turning pages until heavy eyelids forced me to put it down until the next night. If you like romance, gorgeous settings and intriguing characters, read this book. You won't be disappointed. I can't wait for the second book of the trilogy to come out!

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Story March 6, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Nice story but I prefer my "fluff romance" sex scenes to be a little less graphic with more left to the imagination.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Writing Skills September 10, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I've got to say that I just loved the writing in this book. For anyone who wonders if agents really know what they're talking about when they make suggestions, reading "The Guestbook" will answer that question. I found that the characters were well developed, the plot engaging, and the description beautiful. Andrea knows how to set a scene and a mood. As emotions flow up and down throughout the book, the reader is swept away with the characters. I always went back to my reading happy to be surprised and delighted. Even though I don't normally read romance novels, this book may have changed my mind. I'll be glad when the next one of the series comes out. I highly recommend this delightful book.
