The Guestbook by Andrea Hurst is jam packed with hidden treasures along with a compelling story.
The descriptions of the flowers, the mountains, the sky, the animals, and the FOOD were poetic and made me feel like I could actually smell and taste the foods, or feel the nature around me.
I personally love Lilly's story of recovery after a bad marriage.
She is strong, creative, and an inspiration to all women who have to restart their lives.
I am recommending it to all of my friends.
Hopefully this will become a series because I miss the island and the brownies already!!!
My "in a nutshell" summary...
Lily discovers that she has a cheating husband. She escapes to her grandmother's bed and breakfast on Madrona Island...to heal and regroup.
My thoughts after reading this book...
This book has everything that a book like this should have. A cheating dastardly evil insensitive husband...did I say controlling...Brad is very controlling. In fact his role as the bad guy is awesome...he is the guy you love to hate. When Lily...his trophy wife...realizes that he is cheating...she leaves her perfect L.A. Life and heads to the inn she inherited from her grandmother. The inn is lovely, the neighbors are quirky, and other than being constantly harassed and threatened by Brad...she is trying to rebuild her life. Of course on the ferry to the inn she sees a drop dead gorgeous stranger who turns out to be her neighbor. He is raising a young son on his own and they are attracted to each other from the start. But in denial...lol!
In the mean time...quirky neighbors visit, Lily learns how to start a fire, Brad keeps threatening her and cutting off her access to money and Lily has to use her culinary skills to find a way to make a living! All the while she is reading her grandmother's guest book and searching for her grandmother's famous brownie recipe!
What I loved about this book...
Hmmm...that's easy! I loved almost everything...the sexy bits were tasteful, the food was mouth watering, and I truly wanted to be there. There was enough drama to keep me reading at a fast pace...I did not want to put this book down.
I found this to be a lovely book with interesting characters.Read more ›
But the five senses were not the only things stimulated by this novel. The author, Andrea Hurst, also captivated me with the sweet, yet realistic characters and their heart-felt, emotional journeys. For me it is the characters and their relationships, their life-lessons, which make or break the story, and this novel definitely made it!
I highly recommend this book to those who love a good romance.
However, of all the mistakes, the most grievous is your portrayal of Lupus.
I live with SLE, the worst kind of the disease, and know better than anyone that it is NOT fatal, nor is it a combination of stage four cancer and AIDS as you have written.
It's obvious from the blurbs on your next two books that you have done those of us with Lupus a grave disservice.
Please research Lupus, edit the typos and correct the continuity errors.

Nice, quick read. Not so much interested in the spiritism, other worldly aspect. Not my cup of tea (pun intended). Enjoyed the basic storyPublished 25 days ago by Woods
Quite frankly, this book reads like a Lifetime movie script. The main character never really develops, mostly because the plot is moved along based on meal descriptions and... Read morePublished 26 days ago by lizarda
