Surpernatural Murder Suspense Thriller That Was Hard to Put Down, June 19, 2011
The Guide, a supernatural murder suspense novel, is my first exposure to author Jeff B. Skinner. Although I have little experience with this genre, I found this 191-page book a quick read that was hard to put down.
Shannon and Lewis are twins. Their mother died when they were born and their mother's boy friend after discovering he was not their father left the state after their birth and they were adopted by Liana in Bloomington. When they were six a mysterious surrealistic light (The Guide) visited them leaving Shannon with a gift--the ability to materialize objects on a small scale and both of the twins the ability to communicate with each other telepathically over great distances.
While in college pursuing a degree in Business, she met the love of her life; however, he died at 23 years old. She went on to graduate from college with honors.
At twenty-six, Shannon moved to a town with an evil feel about it (Catcreek) gets a job in a library and meets telepathic, 30-year old former secret service agent (now service-connected disabled) Blake, whose parents were murdered when he was seven.
On their twenty-sixth birthday, Shannon's brother, living just outside Cincinnati tells her he is being followed to two men.
Coincidentally, Shannon was visited again by the apparition of her childhood while a murderous fiend not of this world who has the ability to dematerialize, pass through walls, and materializes again goes on a killing spree dissolving the bones and nerves from his victims while choking the life from them.
The Guide has prepared Shannon to search for the murderer while the killer can hardly wait to scratch her name off of his list of future victims like numerous ones before her. They are on a head-on collision course in a mission of which only one will survive in this surrealistic world. Enjoy!
