From the Back Cover

The Guru in You invites you to embark on a journey to reconnect with your body and discover its natural ability to heal. As the first male supermodel, Cameron Alborzian had a life that many dream of—traveling the globe, working with the most prestigious designers in the world, partying with celebrities, and appearing in major ad campaigns and cultural landmarks like Madonna's "Express Yourself" video. But his real achievement came when he decided to leave the material world of high fashion and investigate the ancient art of Ayurvedic healing. What he learned changed his life, and, after years of study, he now works with everyone from Hollywood celebrities to executives of international corporations to bring balance, improved health, and inner peace to their busy lives. The tools he provides for his clients are now available to all with The Guru in You.

Most of us will never have a live-in guru, but Yogi Cameron provides the next best thing: an easy-to-follow program, guiding you to better health and happiness. The Guru in You lays the foundation for change, helping us identify our unhealthy patterns and set our intentions. It then provides you with a customizable plan. Whatever your body type and temperament, Yogi Cameron offers diet, supplements, breathing exercises, and yoga tailored just for you. This is not a one-size-fits all program but an invitation to develop a practice that you'll take with you for the rest of your life.

Yogi Cameron teaches us the ancient wisdom that we all have the power to heal ourselves. By developing a practice that works for your individual needs, you will forever improve how you eat, sleep, work, and exercise.

Yogi Cameron invites us to discover what he has learned firsthand: the material world will not bring sustainable happiness, but we can all find joy if we pursue a meaningful path toward balancing our body and mind. With this book, you can be guided by the guru in you.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Pretty Face February 3, 2011
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Yogi Cameron is a gorgeous ex-model who has transitioned to teaching yoga and practicing ayurveda (which usually takes years to master and in which to qualify.) His clientele seems to be mainly female and wealthy and single--or rich and famous. He seems to be sincere, but the marketing machine here seems to be pushing his looks and charisma--makes one wonder about the actual spiritual depth of the guy, a subject he likes to talk about. There are SO many other, better, more complete yoga and ayurveda books out there. The core of his book offers a few simple yoga routines, some breathing, and some dietary advice based on dosha type, which can be had in any number of other books. Also, I fault the publisher for using very poor-quality paper and low-resolution photos--it's not a high end production by any means. If you're a Yogi Cameron fan, you'll enjoy the book as a keepsake or souvenir, and some might find some helpful beginning information. Of course I wouldn't turn down a personal session with the guy, but if you're serious, look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars An authentic book from an authentic practitioner January 17, 2011
I picked this book on a whim, wanting to learn more about Yoga and Ayurveda (Indian system of holistic medicine) from an "outsider" looking "in" to get a varied and an unbiased perspective on the above philosophies. I was pleasantly surprised that Cameron turned his life around and made a conscious choice to walk away from a stellar modeling career and access to most material excess, to pursue a career focused on temperance, meditation, healing, and detachment.

The book consists of four parts:

Part One: The Path consists of
* The Material World and
* Setting Your Intention.

Part Two: The Foundation consists of
* The Practice of Nonviolence (kindness toward ourselves and others),
* The Practice of Detachment (Allowing what nature intends for us), and
* Letting Go of Excess (Knowing when enough is enough).

Part Three: Expression consists of
* Posture Practice and the Pursuit of Inner Beauty,
* The Breath,
* Living the Ayurveda Way, and
* Practices for Building Awareness.

Part Four: Union describes
* how to put is all into practice - with clear examples showing how the above theory and postures and holistic way of healing could be made part of life, followed by an Appendix of case-study examples.

The book is succinct and well-written. It reads like a friendly conversation, but it is still substantial and makes you introspect. The exercises are described in an audience-friendly manner and with corresponding photographs. There are well-drawn examples to accompany each new aspect of the pose/breathing/following the foundational practices.

3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining but Disappointing April 14, 2011
By Rick
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
There is nothing new in this book as far as health secrets go unless you consider drinking warm glasses of water insightful. The author is somewhat too genuine in his fervor for the guru lifestyle that leads one to believe he is merely interested in selling books which he dose well as the book is well written and entertaining. It's an easy read but once done you really don't come away with anything of value except a delightful yarn about a guy who became a self proclaimed guru. Nothing harmful but then again not much useful information.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Easy Read With A Great Payoff February 8, 2011
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Yogi Cameron has succeeded in introducing the Ayurvedic way of life in a most palatable way. Everything he teaches makes sense and the story of his journey makes it all the more real. Introducing a 5000 year old system for healing is a daunting task, but Yogi Cameron encourages starting with small steps. I took some and it was great. The Guru In You is so accessible that it covers up the intensity of the experience that it offers. I am reading it again and am fine tuning some of the steps that I have taken and am adding some new ones. It has been a very positive experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars A New You For The New Year! January 3, 2011
How many of us are sick and tired of being sick and tired? In my life I'm always trying my utmost to follow a healthy and spiritual path, though "real life" always seems to get in the way. What an inspiration The Guru in You: A Personalized Program for Rejuvenating Your Body and Soul is! Cameron Alborzian led a life that most people only dream of: traveling the world, being a supermodel, hanging out with celebrities, but he wasn't truly fulfilled. He went on a spiritual journey that led him to true peace, health and happiness, and now he's sharing his path and guidance with the world.

What's different about Yogi Cameron's book is that he helps you design a healing program specifically for you. No matter your current weight, lifestyle, or temperament, you can ultimately live a life of vibrant energy. Once you've tasted what true happiness and health are you'll find it easy to pass up those poor choices that have gotten you to where you are today. What an exciting and inspiring book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book February 6, 2011
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I truly enjoyed this book and the way Yogi Cameron talked about certain moments of his life and what motivated him to be where he is today. His client's stories are also very interesting as it shows us that whatever the person story is, the path to reach peace and happiness needs dedication, abnegation, will and determination. When we want, we can!
The book is also full of tips and daily practices. We can peck information here and there that can help us to live a better daily life.
Keep an open mind and be ready for change.
Great reading!

2.0 out of 5 stars Honestly, I was just bored with it.
The book seemed like a lot of fluff without a lot of meat (or should I say...tofu). The usable info could have gone in a pamphlet.
