I felt I already had a good understanding of the commonly used fibers but this is a fantastic resource for both choosing and caring for the newer blends and cellulose fibers including bamboo and Tencel. This is my go-to guide when I see a great sale on yarns.

When description said 'most commonly available yarns' i thought it was by manufacturer not type of yarn. Good review though of types but nothing you cant find for free on the web. I was hoping for info and reviews of specific yarns available

I thought I would purchase this book so I could understand the different gauge wools etc.. It definitely does that for me in one place rather then having to google it with each new project. I had hoped it would give more info as to substitung one yarn for another etc. and choosing the right needles, but you can't have everything!

This is a wonderful book to have in anyone's library of books. I learned about fibers I did not even know exist. It is also includes how to test fiber (yarns) that may not have a label on them anymore with a burn test. Although, for some (like myself), depending on the fiber, it may still be journey. Not everyone knows what certain burnt things smell like to use as a reference like burnt grass or plastic. I don't know about you but I have never burned grass ha ha or touched certain fibers or other materials after they were burned. It is a very good resource. It even tells you the pros and cons to working with the yarn like how may not felt and another can split easily or if you are making a garment for someone, it is good to know if it can retain heat or not and fire resistant. This book contains all this useful information and more!

The seller was great too. I got it very quickly (less than two weeks).

Love this book. It has a list of the pros and the cons of the different yarns and of yarn blends. It is a great reference book for every knitter whether a beginner or an experienced one.
