Book Description

The Happiness Spreadsheet is a workbook that leads the reader step-by-step to the creation of a personalized Happiness Spreadsheet.

What is a Happiness Spreadsheet? The Happiness Spreadsheet is really three things—an idea, a document and a way of life. Here’s the idea: If you can think differently and more consciously about the relationship between your spending, your values and your happiness, your life can change dramatically. As a document, The Happiness Spreadsheet provides the structure for you to turn this idea into reality. The payoff? You can use your Happiness Spreadsheet to both monitor and recalibrate the role that money plays in your everyday life.

By completing the exercises in the book you will: Identify your key values, beliefs and ideals; focus on spending in relation to those beliefs and ideals; and create a spending plan that aligns with your most cherished values while at the same time living within your means.

Cathy Curtis, the author, is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and has helped clients over the past 10 years to optimize their spending to lead more fulfilling lives. This ebook was inspired by her experiences with her clients.

5.0 out of 5 stars Money, means, and happiness March 30, 2012
Socrates warned us that the unexamined life is not worth living. This might have been a big consideration back in Athens in his days, but in the "here and now" of our turbulent economic times for many of us the "unaccounted" life might not only make us poor, but also leave us unhappy. Money can't buy happiness, but it can be a tool for better self-knowledge, which is likely to bring us happiness, to put the Socratic spin on it.

In The Happiness Spreadsheet, financial planner Cathy Curtis reassures us that we can have it all, as long as we know clearly what having it all means to us. It's not about having everything, but having the right things that match our values. The series of spreadsheets in the book gradually bring us to a mindful realization that the value of money is not always in the numbers but in the level of support and growth it provides for a life lived based on what we value.

I have had the fortune to participate in a discussion of priorities and happiness based on The Happiness Spreadsheet, and I can say that I continue to fill in the fields defined by my values in my mind as I go about making my financial decisions, big and small.
