More About the Author

Carolyn has had a long and extremely interesting road to become a bestseller.

When she head to veterinary school those many years ago she had no idea decades later she would be writing controversial historical thrillers, gut wrenching mysteries and roller coaster-style action/adventure tales!

Born in San Francisco and raised in the beautiful Napa Valley, Carolyn always had an overactive imagination. As a child you could usually find her dragging the neighborhood children out to the haunted barn to make her Nancy Drew-style audio tapes. Oh and did she mention, there was an entire life-sized recreation of the nativity scene in the rafters? Yeah, that wasn't just a little creepy.

Which of course was great practice for writing such blockbusters as Plain Jane: A Patterson-style thriller with a dash of Hannibal and 30 Pieces of Silver: An Extremely Controversial Historical Thriller.

Carolyn is honored to have a seven book contract with Amazon's mystery and thriller imprint, Thomas & Mercer along with being one of the eight books during the inaugural launch of Amazon's new Serial program (9th Circle).

With over 250,000 books sold, Carolyn now lives on a beautiful lake in the Pacific Northwest where the fog rolls in over the water, snuffing out all signs of life around her. Yep, she still loves the creepy!

First thing's first, this is only 3 stories and not the complete collection. The rest of the collection will come out this coming October of 2013 so for the people that have complained about this, make sure you read the entire page before purchasing a/the book!

I have read The Betrayed and Robin Hood Hacker Series and just finished the availble books of the Harbinger series and here is my take as a fan of Ms. McCray's work.

Some will say that some of the things that hapen in the book are too unbelieveable to be true and couldn't possibly happen in law enforcement... to that I say... "You're reading a FICTION BOOK!".
If you want something that's true, go and read something in the Non-fiction section of this site.
It's called "Suspension of Disbelief" and it's used in TV, Movies, Video Games and yes, I hate to break it to you, but also in Books.

Harbinger is a royaly cocky, pain in the a** BUT he is good at what he does and is passionate about it. As a profiler, he is the best but as a man, he has his issues. That's one of the great things about Harbinger, you hate him for being so stupid but love him for being so smart.

He isn't a perfect hero that has the perfect solution to every situation and he can't fight his way out of a fully armed army with his bare hands and fancy martial arts moves. He is just someone that is smart and has studied to know the human mind better than anyone. This is part of what makes you connect and root for Harbinger.

Read it and enjoy as I did. Make sure to check out her other works.
Next up for me, the Darc Murders Collection.

If you think you know what is going to happen, your wrong. I have read so many suspense and crime books that guessing the end gets easier and easier. NOT this time. Be prepared to be hooked from the fist page and loose some sleep because you just can't put it down

The books themselves are fast-moving and generally fun, but whoever did the editing should be fired or shot. Maybe fired and shot. All those mistakes are really distracting for someone who wants to get lost in the plot but keeps getting yanked out of the setting. As in, crime sight instead of crime site. Really?

Each book in the series kept me guessing until the end every time. But I struggled to get through the books, especially Buzz Kill, because of the endless spelling and grammar errors, incorrect word usage, missing words, and incomplete sentences. I won't be reading any future McCray writing.

I couldn't even think about anything lower than 5 stars. Kent Harbinger just sucks in any reader who is fortunate enough to try and understand him. The profiler is so damn good, funny, and cocky to the point that you just can't put the book down until you think you have figured out how to solve his case for him. But he's never wrong, and yes, he IS that good.

I originally purchased this collection because it was a special price I couldn't pass up. I had never read this author before so didn't know what to expect. This collection was excellent!!! I couldn't put each book down until I was finished!! Love the characters, loved the story line...just enjoyed the entire series!!!! Can't wait to find more books by this author. Storyline predictable, alot of hype about how scary the plots were. Half way through I could figure out the killers based on the character line up. Seems like there was no editing as the sentence structure and use of vocabulary simply didn't make sense..(for example ".......but as the hours ticked down to his departure date, even Kent became more and more disparaged that he could fulfill his promise." Really? Very disappointing

Another wonderful series from Ms. Carolyn McCray. The Harbinger Collection is just as weird as all the other murder books she has published. The series starts off with Anatomy...it's basically a short story that leads into the big book of Plain Jane.

I wouldn't skip over the book Anatomy by any means. It gives you insight into the main characters in the following book, Plain Jane. Anatomy was actaully pretty good. It was faced paced. Very insightful in how the characters meet and start to mesh. I was actually hoping that there was more to it. Then I started the next book in the series and my thoughts and dreams were answered.

Plain Jane

First things first...I'm glad I'm a red head! This book has so many twists and turns that it makes you wonder where things are headed next. The police are hot on the case of a serial killer who has a thing for brunettes. I'm normally good at figuring out "who done it's" but this time I was thrown a curve ball. I can't give you anymore other than be prepared for some pretty gruesome stuff. This isn't for those with a queasy stomach. Once you start reading Plain Jane, you won't be able to put the book down...it's that good!

Dark Lullaby

This is a short story that bridges Plain Jane to the next Soul To Keep. This book puts our detective on the case with Kent Harbinger. We find that a family is twisted and sick and has some major secrets that should not be told. This was a fast read for such a short story...but worth every second!

Soul to Keep

Nicole is on the case without her love and profiler Kent Harbinger. Only problem, she is dealing with her ex Ruben, who is just too obsessed! This is a short story that takes on a family that has one major issue.
