4.0 out of 5 stars Classics, but deathworld II is abbreviated March 28, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
You've got to love the deathworld series, but be aware... deathworld II, while included in this collection, is an earlier version which was abbreviated, if you've read the full novel you will find about 1/3 of this version is cut suddenly short.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Reader's Digest of Harrison June 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I purchased this book for the Death World books. The first was the way I remembered it...the second was chopped in half with the ending coming right as the best parts were beginning. I felt cheated and realized that Halcyon is simply using this as a teaser for purchasing books two and three; which I will likely do simply because they are good books...once they are fully supported in the E-world (book three is not yet an e-book). The short stories, however, were excellent...well worth what was missing of the Death World Trilogy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Novels & Shorts April 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I will admit up front that I am not a big fan of short stories. Having said I will read most shorts by my favorite authors. The shorts in this collection were not bad but not up to his normal quality (but that just be my bias!) The collection as a whole was great with some stories I had not read or even heard of before. I would greatly recommend this collection to all fans and to others that just like a good space story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dave H October 27, 2011

"Deathworld: Book I" What an amazing story, on par with Burroughs and Wells that shares their rythmic writing style, Harry Harrison has outdone himself with the "Deathworld" series. Action packed, cerebral, and engrossing, this story is a real trip. The anti-hero protagonist, Jason dinAlt, is a rouguish charmer and ex-gambler who will capture your imagination and have you cheering him on. Can't wait to read the sequels!!!"Deathworld: Book II" is an extraordinary continuation of the story from master storyteller Harry Harrison. I felt like I was there, that's how he writes, simply amazing! It's no wonder why this series is revered by sci/fi fantasy/adventure aficionados the world over. Filled with suspense, action, heroics, richly developed characters, and alien backdrops, the storyline is mesmorizing. A must read......"Planet of the Damned" by Harry Harrison. Another extraordinary story from the imagination and pen of Harry Harrison! Absolutely magnificent storyline featuring anti-hero Broin as the protagonist supported by Lea and Ult. If you enjoy otherworldly backdrops, elegant prose, linguistic aritifice, action, and suspense then you will want to read this book, its amazing!!!"Arm of the Law" by Harry Harrison is another imaginative short story featuring a very cool robot that will tickle your ribs with laughter...classic Harrison...one of the master storytellers in the sci/fi fantasy/adventure genre......"The K-Factor" by Harry Harrison. WOW!!! Harrison's imagination and originality come to the fore with this mesmorizing story based on societic philosphy and peacemaking between warring planets. A great short story from one of my favorite sci/fi adventure inditers......"The Misplaced Battleship" by Harry Harrison. What a great story from a master storyteller. Read more ›

4.0 out of 5 stars Old SF March 3, 2013

I have liked his writing since I first read his stories while I was in high school in the sixties. Easy to read and I like the way his stories are presented. As with some of the other SF writers I would read anything that they wrote.

4.0 out of 5 stars good deal, March 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
its a good deal getting 11 novels in one, but two of the novels are the same story, exactly under different titles, the first and last, so its really 10, still quite a deal and it had a bunch of Harrisonh stories i'd never seen before

4.0 out of 5 stars Good mix of sci-fi novellas and short stories March 28, 2015
By Mark
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a good anthology which I bought to get 'The Deathworld Trilogy' However, I think they only include the first two parts of the trilogy. The first 2 Deathworld stories are good, and are more properly novellas, as is the third tale (dont' recall the title). This collection is rounded out with mostly short stories that are also quite good. Harrison also wrote 'Make Room!", which was the basis for Soylent Green (and is much better), and the story that got me into him was a short tale called 'The Road not Taken' - not here, but worth looking for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Reading January 22, 2013
By AZ
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a great deal on classic sci-fi literature. Few do the genre with as much panache as Harry Harrison. Call me old, but the new stuff is not nearly as engaging as the classics. Other than a few small, irrelevant issues with the conversion to eBook format, this was like holding the paperbacks in my hands again.

For anyone considering getting this, it is a great collection of old school sci-fi in a neat, inexpensive package.
