Book Description

Ireland, 1146

Shive MacDermot and Tiernan O’Hara agree to wed to end a five-year feud between their clans which had been provoked by the murder of her brother. Tiernan had been her brother’s best friend–could he really have done the unthinkable and killed him in cold blood?

Tiernan never allowed himself to harbor romantic feelings for his best friend’s sister out of respect for his friend, but the spark of attraction between them was always there, shimmering like a flame. As he becomes convinced her life is truly in danger, his cold reasoning begins to thaw toward his lovely new bride. Once the two of them open to love, the scorching passion between them can no longer be denied.

But far from being a happy bride, Shive begins to have her suspicions that all is not as it seems in her clan. She soon realises her brother’s killer was certainly not her new husband Tiernan, but a member of her own family. As the passion between the couple increases, so too do her fears for their happy future if the real killer is not brought to justice.

Can she win Tiernan’s love and prove to him she is not the enemy? Can Tiernan keep his wife safe? Or will the march of history tear the two lovers asunder?

Shive undertakes an epic struggle to win Tiernan’s love and prove to him she is not his enemy. She must also save her clan and their whole region of Ireland from the ambitious Muireadach O’Rourke, determined to eliminate anyone who might oppose his bid to become high-king of all Ireland.

Muireadach is nothing if not clever. Will Tiernan believe that his own wife has betrayed him, and become her enemy himself? Or will he trust to the love between them, and fight for their lives before its too late?
Reviews:
THE HART AND THE HARP is an action packed, plot-driven novel filled with adventure and danger. Although Shive and Tiernan are the main characters, Shive is clearly at the forefront -- a brave, intelligent woman with a fierce heart and loads of courage.
There is almost a role reversal in this story line, which I find both intriguing and refreshing. With such intensity in its plot lines, there is little need to focus on other characters, although the development of the secondary characters is well done.
THE HART AND THE HARP is not for the faint of heart -- but it will please those looking for a rollicking adventure and a bigger than life heroine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love and war... August 14, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is definitely an action-packed and fast-moving tale, set in 12th century Ireland. But to fully enjoy it, one needs to suspend beliefs in reality. Shive MacDermot and Tiernan O'Hara are the protagonists. Despite all the author keeps saying to convince me otherwise, I see Tiernan as a really dumb hunk, subject to hissy fits at the drop of a hat. Shive, on the other hand is Superwoman and Wonder Woman combined and has really bad taste in guys if she can go for Tiernan.
The yarn begins with their wedding, a marriage of convenience to halt the fighting between their clans. However, Shive's daddy has no intention of stopping the warfare, so essentially the next thing we see is Shive leading her husband's troops into battle and defeating one enemy in the afternoon, another in the middle of the night, and then fighting in one-on-one arena-combat the next morning. PS: she's 5 months pregnant at the time. Hubby is off hunting somewhere and has no idea his lands need to be defended, which for him seems to be par for the course.
Peace between their clans ensured, Shive now has to stop cruel and villainous clan leader O'Rourke from becoming Ireland's high king and get the job for her own kind and gentle cousin.
There's plenty of intrigue and fighting and I have to admit that it was quite a page-turner. With never a dull moment, I had a really good time reading it. But handle it with a grain of salt!

An aspiring cousin for Ireland's king proposes she marries the accused her brother's best friend to form an alliance between the clans. She has secretly been in love with him since thirteen and does not believe he killed her brother but must prove this to everyone. 3.0 out of 5 stars Good Read if Willing to Stretch Your Imagination September 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed this story, however, I must say the heroine was a bit too " strong" for my taste. I have nothing against a heroine who can wield a sword and give a man a run for his money in battle, but a 8 1/2 month pregnant heroine (with her first baby no less!) who chooses to go into battle and fight is a bit much for me. Plus I really liked the hero, but he was very much a secondary character in this story, which resulted in there being very little "romance" in the book. The story covered a period of about a year during which time the h and H spent very little time together except for the brief period when they actually lived together. After she moved back to her own home they were not in each others company very much and whenever they were together, they were typically involved in one misunderstanding or another. I got this book for free so I won't complain, but after reading it I was happy I hadn't paid for it. It is well written and the plot is very interesting, but it could have been so, sooo much better had the hero played a bigger part in the plot and the heroine not been so "manly" for lack of a better word. I actually saw another book by this author being offered for free on Amazon and bypassed it. The synopsis for that book was very interesting, just like the synopsis for this one, but it seemed it was going to have the same kind of "super hero" heroine.
