"The Haunting" is the perfect name for this edition of The Immortals series. It's spooky and thrillingly frightening at times, making it an excellent release for Halloween. Still, the romance takes the major role in the story. Terrific characters and a fast pace kept me reading. At just under 300 pages, this book packed tons of story.

Since helping to kill Kehksut, Mai (a wood nymph) has been suffering from frightening hallucinations brought on by PTSD. Worse, her powers have all but disappeared. Living with her nightmares has caused her to lose her job as a reporter. Finally, after months of therapy, Mai is determined to get her life back. She has information that can prove to be the news story of the year. A local politician has been involved in a spree of crimes including murder.

Before Mai can write the article, a man breaks into her apartment and beats her nearly to death... Or so she believes until minutes later she realizes that both she and her apartment are in perfect condition. Could it be that the hallucinations are back worse than ever? Or was the man truly there? The only thing missing from her apartment is the information she had for her article. Afraid for her life and sanity, Mai quickly moves to a new apartment building.

Nick is both a chameleon and a "Spirit Walker". As a chameleon, he can take the shape of just about any living thing. As a Spirit Walker, he can enter peoples dreams.

In the seventh book of the Immortals series, Robin T. Popp brings us the story of Mai and Nick, neither of whom is actually immortal. They are magical creatures, though. Mai is a wood nymph, which I gather means she can teleport and is extremely horny. Nick is a Spirit Walker who can travel through the spiritual realms of dreams, wishes, etc. He can also morph into any living thing bigger than a hawk. Mai is also a reporter working on exposing a corrupt politician who is not pleased about her digging into his campaign. Also, Mai's new apartment building boasts a creepy maintenance guy who happens to have a genie under his control (loosely, which is unfortunate for all of them. This is not a nice Robin-Williams-type genie.)
This is my so-far favorite of the immortals series. Mai and Nick are quite amusing characters with crackling chemistry. I enjoy the idea of a spirit mate, as well. Will, the super, is so creepy he's comical, and it's nice to get visits from Lexi and Darius from an earlier volume of this series.
Highly recommended. Would work almost as well as a standalone, so if you haven't read the whole series, don't worry, you won't be lost.

I picked this up on Amazon mostly because the cover and blurb looked intriguing. I was pleasantly surprised to find a solid story with exceptionally likeable characters. I enjoyed Mai Groves, and felt she was someone I could see myself having coffee with. Nick Blackhawk is a drool-worthy hero to the story. I loved his hard-as-nails exterior, his protective nature and his softer side as well. I like the idea that he is a dream walker who can traipse around the spiritual planes, and that Mai turns out to be his spirit mate. I think the story would be more enjoyable had I read the prior one, which I can only assume told the full tale of Lexi and Darius. The other thing I found a little hard to get around was the abrupt change of POV from characters. I actually had to go back once or twice in order to see where the actual shift had taken place. Overall, a good read, and I do plan on looking up the other stories in this series.

This book was very good. I never read any of the Immortals books before. I just picked this one because it sounded good. It kept my interest in it so now I want to read the others in the series.

The story was good once I figured how to decipher it. Misspelled words and improper punctuation had we wanting to erase book before I finished it, but I kept going. If you have time to decipher it read it, it's really a good story. If you have no time for deciphering or bad grammar, walk away.
